USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

I got that call a few weeks back. The recruiter said that he get a list of all seniors from the school and is just working the list to fill his recruiting numbers. He didn't I had applied for ROTC scholarships or to the SAs
that's about the exact wording of the texts we got...

For those that got their decision already, Did you receive an email saying your portal had changed or did it just change and you had to go into your portal?
My son’s portal changed before he got the email. He logged in every morning at 8:00am USAFA time…the day it changed he logged in at 8:02am

I was perusing this forum for old time's sake and feeling, again, all of the pain that I was feeling for my DS three years ago. Like now, USAFA had given a 4/21 deadline for hearing an admissions result, and like you all, we had not heard anything. On the morning of 4/21/2020, most people woke up to their portal showing a TWE. My son did not. There was no result. We were really confused. There were several of us on this forum in that same boat. The next day my son received an appointment. The others in the same boat either received an appointment or a prep school/falcon foundation scholarship. There is reason for hope, even now-- take heart!

This is my first time posting on here, but I've been reading this thread for a while now because it sucks feeling like you are the only one who didn't receive an appointment. I honestly applied to usafa thinking there was no way I was getting in but decided to do it anyways. I have a 4.6 weighted GPA, named an AP Scholar, varsity basketball and lacrosse all 4 years, National Honors Society, Math and history honors society, but I was missing leadership from my resume. I was a shift lead at my job, but that almost seems irrelevant because usafa tends to gravitate more to athletic leadership positions. I also don't come from a military family so I had no connections in the academy. At this point i am waiting for my TWE so I can stop stressing, but until then I shall continue to check my portal :)

You definitely sound like you're underselling yourself. Those of us still here have come much farther than many others so don't doubt yourself. I think you have a great chance👍 (or maybe I'm just trying to cope because I have a similar file to yours lol, who knows, and good luck)

I wouldn’t overly dissect this. We have military family (I’m retired) and my son’s athletic background is extremely high level. All state, team Capt, etc. Academics are good, but not near as good as yours. My guess is his ACT wasn’t high enough and I believe he’ll most likely end up with a TWE.
You should be proud of your accomplishments. Wow! I’m super impressed!
You seem like a very intelligent hard working individual. Hopefully, you’ll get an appointment, if not, I have no doubt you’ll be incredible successful. Best of luck!

Shift lead is a leadership position at a real job! Don't discount that. Athletic leadership is nice but not necessary as long as you can show the admission that you are a leader. We are not a military family and DS does not have leadership in athletic but through his extracurricular. It was good enough that he received an early LOA.

That's most likely accurate. As I said earlier, they will send out the non-select notifications starting on the 21st. Will there be some appointments offered? Perhaps, I don't know.

Thanks for your response. I read it with acute interest since we have some things in common. I am also a retired military aviator! And I agree that the best pilots didn't need to be the best students. Rather, they needed to practice the best CRM (crew resource management...names vary among institutions). The strongest pilots I've met combined superb airmanship skills with a healthy dose of humility. Some of the worst pilots I've worked with were extremely smart individuals, but completely lacking in any humility or modesty. The results ranged from "mildly annoying to fly with" to "downright dangerous."

My DD and I have come to the slow recognition that her lack of athletic prowess (and her petite form...she's 5'6" and 110 lbs) will probably not serve her well at USAFA. Example....We were at Yokota AFB for spring break (on a vacation) and I tried to imagine my daughter leading, motivating, and encouraging the recruits and airmen that we saw on base. The military has changed a lot since I got out 10 years ago. The military bearing, appearance, professionalism, weight standards, and even hygiene have all suffered in the intervening years. My experience at Yokota was a wake-up call....I couldn't really imagine my daughter being able to inspire and motivate many of those troops. She would probably have better luck building teams of engineers at Google than she would supervising watchstanders at a USAF command. The silver lining of all this is that she is going to be mostly immune to the sting of a TWE from USAFA next week. It'll probably bother me more than her. At this point, she might even decline an appointment.

I hope you get good news. It would be a thrilling to receive an appointment. But if his outcome is TWE, I also hope that he has a good backup plan that he can get excited about and quickly pivot towards with eagerness. Our "backup" plan has emerged as the new primary plan, and we're excited about it.
My son's Major in ROTC at his University is a 5'4" at most 115 lb wet tiny little lady an all of those guys and every single military official or officer respect, listen and follow that amazingly strong leader. Size is definitely not a precursor to a great leader and just saying, she is a USAFA graduate that has a Masters in Engineering 😉

If this is what your daughter truly desires, her size won't dictate her leadership abilities, she will. I hope she finds her golden envelope with her acceptance today, tomorrow, or sometime this week. If not, I hope that she rises and shows her resolve to be the leader she wants and gets an acceptance next year.

Best of luck to all of you!!
