Sweet Jesus, where is PETA? Don't they realize that "Corky", the Gamecock, is the USC mascot. Cockfighting is a blood sport where these roosters specifically bred for aggression. Besides being cruel to animals, cockfighting is closely connected to other crimes such as gambling, drugs and acts of violence. It is illegal in all 50 states, and a felony in 42 states. Not a Felony in South Carolina for some reason.

Corky? Really? Why don't you look up the mascot's name?
The team actually takes their name from Revolutionary Brig. Gen. Thomas "The Carolina Gamecock" Sumter of the SC militia. I don't think they really endorse cock fighting.

You do realize I was speaking tongue and cheek...right? I don't have a rooster in this fight, but I never understood why these schools don't choose Presidents that are already affiliated with the school. West Point would never choose a Superintendent from OCS, let alone USNA, USAFA, USCGA.

Hmmm, I can't speak for West Point or USAFA but I can assure you that USNA does NOT choose its "President" (Superintendent).

The Academy, its administration or alumni assoc. I teach at a civilian university and the faculty senate and other stakeholders have a lot of say in who is chosen as President, Provost and other key roles. Not true in the case of the Naval Academy.

If the Superintendent the commanding officer of the academy, it would make sense that the are not "voted" in by subordinate players. I guess that's why they are not referred to as a "President" or "Chancellor". Anyhow, my point was that we don't see an OCS officer being given that command.

I believe that we will at some point. In years past, it was thought that there would never be a non-grad as Commandant or that there would ever be a Marine as Commandant and both turned out to be wrong.

The slow, methodical moral decay of this country is on display, seems to be accelerating now though.
