USCG involved in search for missing submursible

Remember, the sub wasn’t reported missing for many hours. So the Navy wouldn’t have any idea what it was.

In the non-paywalled article I read, the Navy did report what they heard to the search and rescue team.

“While not definitive, this information was immediately shared with the Incident Commander to assist with the ongoing search and rescue mission.”

If one can believe what is reported…

I wonder why they kept it a secret.
The people who needed to know knew, and it could conceivably have been some other submersible or thing that imploded, ours or someone else’s, and perhaps the decision was made to reach a certain level of certainty it was TITAN. And you don’t want to completely show your hand about the capabilities and locations of your static and dynamic listening systems, and how fast and accurately you can get that data in real time.

That makes a lot of sense to me.

I just saw it reported as political in the timing of the release.

If a few days ago the info the US Navy had aligned with the loss of comms, why did we risk all those lives and ships and planes to search for a downed vessel that couldn’t be saved?

And why would we tell the world what we can and can’t do as a Navy or Coast Guard? The pundits have all been out discussing dive depths and speeds and capabilities. Drives me crazy.
