USNA 2025 Waiting and....Waiting

Just as an FYI, last year there was a massive TWE wave on April 8th (I know because I received one). With COVID and everything who knows if a TWE wave will happen, just thought I'd put that out there.

4.3.21 - it’s the final countdown...
Stealing the idea to distract w/ music 🎶.....

Hope all of the fellow “waiters” on here are hanging in there! A little crazy to think we could know in ~12 days.... DS made the decision today that he will decline an offer for the waitlist if he’s given one. We visited Plan B this week - he really liked the school & the NROTC Program....he’s ready to move forward one way or the other!

So let's say the academy folks haven't made a decision before 15 April. Your DS/DD has an appointment with say Airforce prep and that is only valid until 15 April. If you accept Airforce prep can you then switch to Navy direct appointment if comes in May?A
Asking admissions is a great start. DD is in the same boat as your DD/DS this year. My now Mid was in a similar situation in 2019. She contacted admissions and asked the protocol. She was instructed she could accept the offered appointment, and if she received and accepted another appointment, simply decline the first appointment asap. The SA's deal with this scenario every year. Congrats on the Prep Offer! Our paths may cross in the future. Good luck the rest of the way.

Still waiting... I have a nomination and everything on my app has been done since January except for medical examination, I still have not been contacted by DODMERB at all.

For everyone who is still waiting - tend your alternate plans, hope for the best, PT to relieve stress, try not to dwell on factors you cannot control.

USNA does not inform candidates if they are fully qualified, though occasionally BGOs have loose lips. If you have everything done and a nom, with or without a complete DoDMERB, you still don’t know if you are fully qualified.

There are always more applicants than seats available, more fully qualified candidates with a nom, than there is room for. If it turns out there is no room for you - this year - give yourself a moment to get through the stages of grief to acceptance, move on to alternates, determine if you want to re-attack. Re-applicants impress Admissions with their determination, especially if they have made their intervening year a killer one. If you haven’t read the “College Applicants” section at USNA.edu, I recommend it.

If, while waiting, plan B is accepted and the money is paid to secure a seat in the university, does that impact the ability to accept an appointment if offered? Just want to clarify. Don't want to "commit" to plan B and ruin chances of accepting a hopeful offer. I'd gladly lose the deposit money for the university! lol

Many comments on this in other threads. You may accept NROTC or other scholarships and then decline to accept last minute appointment. Risk is possible loss of deposit Re dorm or tuition.

It does not. At least it didn't for a family I know. They forfeited the initial deposit shortly after Plan B went into effect. They had visited the school and sat through the welcome briefs (mid April). The child received a small swag bag, tee shirt and lanyard during the mini orientation. Ready to embrace plan B, a wrench got thrown into that plan in late May. The parents and child were surprised and happy with their sudden change of fortune. They were glad at at having lost the deposit money (I'm guessing). Not sure what they did with the pricey tee shirt and lanyard. It’s never over until it’s over.

Good luck as you wait.

1st thing he did was email admissions. Told us to ask Airforce for an extension. Never answered my direct question of if he could accept Airforce then decline and accept Navy....

I recommend your son emailing USAFA Admissions instead. The issue that you are trying to solve is not whether your son can accept the Naval Academy Appointment but whether he can decline the USAFA Appointment after he has accepted that. The best source to ask questions relating to USAFA Appointments is USAFA Admissions.
