I have read through many of the existing posts on this forum, regarding application status, triple Q'd, etc. From what I have been able to gather, if a candidates application status is "Complete pending review", it will remain at that status until a decision is made, whether that is an appointment or a rejection? Or does it truly mean that the application has not been reviewed by the Admissions board yet? As far as being triple Q'd, it appears that the Academy does not tell you that information either, but you know your own Medical Status and the other 2 Q's are unknown to the candidate. That leads me to my last question, which is, if you receive a CVW Invitation, can you make any assumptions to the physical and scholastic qualifications? It would seem to me that the Academy would not invite someone to a CVW that was not physically or scholastically qualified. Why would they waist their time and money on someone that was not at least minimally qualified?

What if they are waiting on a medical waiver? Tons of appointees receive waivers for a variety of medical conditions. Some candidates may be asked to provide 7th semester grades prior to going to the board. As you can see there are so many ‘it spends.’ A CVW is generally considered a good sign a candidate has some qualifications that look promising. But don’t read too much into it. Focus on what you can control and let the cards fall where they may.

Let's assume no medical waiver is required as the candidate is already medically qualified through DoDMERB. You mention that "Some candidates may be asked to provide 7th semester grades prior to going to the board.", would the candidate be notified of that and if so when in the process would they expect to see that? Believe me, I am not trying to read anything in to any aspect of the process. I understand the process the Academy goes through it a long and necessary process for them to produce the best class that they can.

Not going to speculate here on it increasing your chances. You can do the stats looking at last years profile to see number of apps, 3Q, Noms, appointments, etc. There are candidates who get junior year CVWs based upon their NASS application data which is self reported. A senior year CVW usually indicates a candidate is competitive, but as mentioned things can happen. If seventh semester grades are requested you would be notified. It could happen anytime between now and end of the year. It could be because a candidate is taking a crucial class Calc and they want to see how they do in it. Remember all re-applicants won’t be screened until 1st semester college grades are submitted.

Complete pending review (CPR) means a decision with regard to an appointment, NAPS/Foundation offer, or turn down has not been made. Has nothing to do directly with 3Q status.
As NavyHoops mentioned, CVWs are for competitive candidates, however nothing should be read into it...some candidates who go to a CVW don’t end up with appointments. CVWs can be offered at any time for juniors and seniors (no requirement for the application package to have been reviewed by the Admissions Board for seniors).

NavyHoops, I certainly appreciate your response and information you provided. I do want to make it clear that my questions were not "what are the chances" or how to increase the chances. I was just trying to get a further understanding of the process and what may or may not be inferred in various situations.

Hoops, if a candidate does not get a CVW invite after requesting one, can they assume they are not competitive for an appointment?

I wouldn’t say that. It could be that the CVW list is full. I wouldn’t speculate beyond that.

In the past, CVWs were seen as a good sign and it seemed that a very high percentage of those doing CVWs ended up with appointments. More recently, not as true. While they're probably not going to give a CVW to an unqualified candidate, there are many well qualified candidates who are turned down. And there could be various reasons that a well-qualified candidate doesn't get a CVW. So, as Hoops so sagely says, wouldn't read much into it either way.
