USNA Class of 2023 Do-It-Yourself Appointment Thread

DD received a med waiver for USNA; CPR and waiting. Received USMC national scholarship (this WAS plan B) contingent on med waiver from USMC. USMC denied waiver yesterday. Received appointment to USCGA this week; med waiver pending there. USAFA granted waiver. CPR and pending there. You can’t make this stuff up...my heart aches for her. But she is stronger than me, and we wait. Plan A(USNA!), C, and D pending. On to plan E. So proud of her drive, desire to serve, and resilience. I am a certifiable wreck.

I am still CPR as well. My friend got rejected from USNA yesterday... I was wondering the same thing.

As in “Yeah, we were unrepping with the oiler today, and I like our new breakaway music, ‘Ride of the Valkyries.’ The USNS ship sent over some great chocolate chip cookies to the bridge team. On our last deployment, we had a high OPTEMPO and sortie rate, so we unrepped about 17 million gallons of avgas.”

Received appointment to USCGA this week; med waiver pending there. USAFA granted waiver. CPR and pending there. You can’t make this stuff up...my heart aches for her. But she is stronger than me, and we wait. Plan A(USNA!), C, and D pending. On to plan E. So proud of her drive, desire to serve, and resilience. I am a certifiable wreck.

I am still CPR as well. My friend got rejected from USNA yesterday... I was wondering the same thing.

My friend was notified by email about the rejection. However, one of my best friends who applied to West Point was rejected but he didn't receive an email or phone call... he checked his portal and the letter was there.

I have flight suits and washed Khakis from 20 years ago that still smell like JP-5. DW is most unhappy that they have not yet been relegated to the garage or the round file.

I’m probably hanging on a little too tight to my Navy days.

DH’s flight jackets, both brown leather and the green, still have that whiff. Every time he came back from cruise, the closet smelled like a fuel pit for a few weeks afterward.

I don’t mind the sounds of freedom, such as jet noise. The smells of freedom, well, some I could do without. Diesel fumes on hot days in small boats on an oily sea idling near the landing platform, low tide in certain harbors around the world, too many shower-free days..


Ok, back to this thread - looking for more good news!
 
Ah the sounds and smells of Freedom. I lived off base in Brunswick, but close enough that I could hear the P3 engines winding up, and landing. It was actually kind of helpful when I was on Wing staff, as I could tell if an exercise was running smoothly from the timing of aircraft taking off and landing. (And I was also happy that I wasn't in jets, or living near Oceana or Cecil...the P3s engines have this smooth , comforting sound...while F14's and A6's re just loud !
 
We lived in quarters at NAS North Island, and our bedroom faced the end of the runway...right where the “war hoovers” of the various S-3 squadrons went to full military power before starting their take-off run. I don’t think we ever opened the windows on that side of the house, and they were coated with an oily fuel residue anyway. Landings were “Hoover noise” non-stop.
