I've seen it said that what is reported here is 10% of a given class--this means 920 appointments have been proffered. Is it reasonable to assume 2/3 of the class has been appointed?

LOAs are relatively rare, and what we don’t know is if the self-reporting population here of parents and candidates may be a population more inclined to look for resources everywhere and in so doing, stumble upon SAF - which may or may not be related to LOA frequency for this group.

The 10% number is a rough predictor that at the end of the cycle, the number who have reported here tends to be about 10% of the final class size of 1100-1200. We don’t usually know the class size until we get closer to I-Day. That 10% is not too useful during the actual outflow of appointments from the start of the cycle to the end.

I had a brief text exchange this morning with my plebe and I wanted to pass this on to all those receiving offers of appointment. I reminded him that one year ago, he received his email from admissions with his offer of appointment, which was the best day of his life, and asked (jokingly) "I bet you sometimes rue the day." He replied that when things are really tough (and they are right now), he reaches back to that feeling of what it was like to "want to be here - it was the greatest" and remind himself why he's here and where he is going. It gets him through the dark ages and plebe summer and doing restriction muster and tours because of 19-year old poor judgement and struggling through plebe swim PE and sometimes feeling you can't do anything right anymore and a whole host of things.

So, future Class of 2024 (and parents) - savor these next few months and the looking forward. That feeling your plebe-to-be DS/DD has of sometimes walking an inch or two above the ground may very well be what gets them through some challenging, character-building periods in the coming year.

And know this - their shipmates will be there for each other in ways we cannot imagine.

Although I did not have real trouble with it, I will say that even though I was a very capable swimmer, it was far from easy and some of
it was kind of a challenge. Never mind an A, getting a B for a lot of it was difficult.
