I wondered the same thing - figured there must be some multiples in there. Or someone planned way ahead researching this.
 
Yes, I am a long-time member but have yet to attend an I-Day. We have 3 children, with 9+ years between the oldest and youngest. Our oldest was interested in USNA but ultimately decided it was not the path for her, and did not apply. I joined the forums when she was initially researching options. For years our middle child was absolutely certain that USNA was his #1 choice, but when the time came, he also decided it was not the path for him, and did not apply. During the summer between junior and senior years of high school, our youngest came to the conclusion that he excels in structured environments and developed a strong interest in pursuing a career of naval service. Seeking an appointment to USNA became his top choice. He submitted his application in early December, received an LOA in early January, and a fully-qualified offer of appointment less than a week later. We did not see this coming with our youngest, although are now convinced that it is indeed the right path for him. While the last few months have very much felt like a "whirlwind", I suppose in some ways it has been a decade in the making. Thank you to all who have taken the time to share - there is some great information here and we have very much appreciated this resource. Flight and hotel reservations have been made for our very first I-Day!

- NAPS, sponsored prep, who tend to receive their appointments later, when it seems clear they will successfully complete their program
- someone with an LOA, or without, who has a hanging medical that finally clears
- a desired candidate without a nom, who is given a VP nom and offer of appointment, as the class build-out nears completion
- and, late in the game for no apparent reason!

We met a dad on the water taxi after IDay. His son received his appointment 7 days prior (while rest of family was away on vacation)! He was still catching his breath from the change in events in a short week! There were a few unfortunate injuries that derailed appointees before IDay.

Based upon the pattern of self reporting on this thread and the USAFA thread, it seems like USNA releases it's appointments on Tuesdays, and USAFA on Wednesdays. Those have been the days of the week when each forum thread 'bursts'. Is that what others notice too, or is it my imagination?

No way to really know since you only see a fraction of all appointments show up on the forums. You could be right but there are so many variables I don’t think it’s worth thinking about too much.
