USNA Class of 2026 Waitlist

DD just got "waitlisted" - today. I was all set to give the Dad speech for Getting in or getting Rejected. I did not have a "waitlist" speech. More wait time!
Man do I feel your pain ! But this post made me laugh for a second at least!

If you have figured out the waitlist speech, please share. Here’s my list so far
• you’re in it until you’re not
•keep the PT going to stay prepared
•tend to plan B all in
•and start beefing up application for 2027 to be even more competitive
•give more hugs to mom because this process is giving me more gray hairs than I ever wanted

She's handling it pretty well - Moving ahead on plan B / Its really me that has to deal with what it all means,..

Hey yall, I am reluctant to say I am apart of the Wait List. Obviously, I wish it could have been a full offer of appointment, but I am at least happy knowing they felt strongly enough about me to offer me the spot on the wait list. Good luck to yall - you are people of great quality and high character who deserve to be in Annapolis (and they think so, too!)

I got waitlisted somewhere else as well and they asked me to accept/decline my place on the waitlist. I don't see anything like that on the USNA portal; is that how it's supposed to be?

There should be a a PDF that explains the waitlist process with an email address in red that states to accept your waitlist position. This is what my DD told me last night .

For those on waitlist with a pending medical waiver: I emailed my admissions counselor about it, but they said that even if my waiver gets approved, the only chance of getting an appointment is if I get picked off the waitlist. Still not being considered for an appointment though due to my medical :/

I am waitlisted as well, but am hopeful. At least it’s not a TWE. Does your district matter at this point or are you now just competing with the others who are waitlisted? Also, what happens if you accept an appointment at another academy and then get offered at USNA?

My son was waitlisted yesterday, and today received an email congratulating him for being offered to go one year to a foundation school. He seemed happy about it…which makes me happy too, although I don’t understand why he wouldn’t have made it the first time around…
the only thing I could think of is that he is from MD, a very competitive area with tons of applicants. Let’s hope it guarantees him a spot for next year. and also I wonder if he is still waitlisted for this year or not.

Congrats.

Congrats! It's a golden ticket for next year and an extra year of growth makes great leaders

My son was notified today that he was waitlisted. I was excited about it because he wasn’t outright denied. However he isn’t excited at all. Just more discouraged. He says that a waitlist means nothing because he’s still in the same exact spot he’s been since the beginning. Maybe I’m looking at it wrong but I feel like it’s a step closer to an appointment. To be waitlisted is a good thing. It means they like what they see but just don’t have a definite spot unless someone withdraws from the pool. Am I wrong?

You are right. Tons of excellent candidates not enough spaces

I think your son is being pragmatic. This is @Capt MJ's post from the "Waiting" thread. Hope it adds some insight.

The Waitlist (not the national waiting list or “the pool”)

The “waitlist” means USNA is in its end stage of building the class to a certain target size range. They are at the point they have built a list - no idea how many are on it - of applicants they would put in the class if they knew they had room. They are now waiting for others’ decisions to clarify how much room is left in the class, so they have a waitlist of folks to draw from if needed.

There is no way of knowing how many - if any - will come off the waitlist.

Keep an eye on your portals, phones and spam mail, and ensure you have a professional vmail prompt. It might come down to a direct call from an Admissions officer wanting to know your answer now or maybe within 24 hours.

As I said, it’s the end game now. Earlier in the process, when numbers were fluid, someone declining wasn’t necessarily a 1:1 immediate availability of a spot, as we know USNA makes more offers than they expect to accept, looking for a certain yield percentage. Now, though, USNA is moving to the goal line by direct management of the warm bodies needed to get to the point where the cycle goal is met.
