USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

I would say just being present and having coffee or a lunch or walking the yard are a gift.
This! My fondest memories of the Yard include the simplest moments:

Walking with DD to Hospital Point on a Friday afternoon, and hearing greetings between her and various mids along the way. It really is a small world.

Walking alone along the perimeter of the Yard, then criss-crossing at various points, while witnessing the rhythms of mid life. It really is a different world.

Sitting with DD by Gate 3 on a quiet Sunday morning as she spots something through the corner of her eye. She instinctively straightens up, turns her head, nods respectfully and says, “Good morning, sir.” The Supe, dressed in sweats and sneakers, greets her back. It really is N*OT COLLEGE.

Lol this made me giggle.

We were at a track meet one weekend. Our then plebe was able to join us. He was quiet, reserved, I thought he was being kind of an ungrateful jerk.

The Supe sat on the outdoor bleacher, right in front of him. It was chilly, so sweats and a cap. I didn’t know it at the time. For sure Not College.

When our non military older sibling of DS went to visit him during a voluntary summer school class, she was in tourist mode. Shorts, tank top, and at the last minute she wanted to see inside the chapel. She jogged up the steps and breezed through the door that was politely held open for her. Meanwhile, DS is freaking out internally, the kind man who held the door for her was the Supe. She had no clue, he dragged her out of the chapel while she grumbled unknowingly. They later toured it when she was dressed in non tourist 'church' clothes.

Cracked me up, I don't think he will ever forget it.

Good morning all. Just a heads up for the NJ peeps waiting to hear from Senators. Senator Menendez has begun making his calls. I received a missed call from him on Friday evening and was able to speak with him yesterday afternoon, informing me that I had received his nomination to the Naval Academy.

Congratulations! I have heard that NJ is a state that avoids a single candidate receiving more than one congressional nomination. Have you already received a nom from your congressional representative?

Yes, I received both one from congressman and one from the Senator.

Is there a typical expectation of when the MOC appointments should be decided? DS just got an appointment to WP and is still torn between USNA and WP. But that's moot if only one school offers an appointment.

Sometime between now and 1 May, with some batches coming out in the winter months as the majority of the elected official slates resolve. They can be delayed, say, by a principal nom awaiting a medical waiver, etc. Admissions will keep up the tempo, working across “nom buckets,” to get appointments out. They know applicants have decisions to make on various opportunities.

Your son can wait until the deadline to make his decision on USMA. Or he can accept, change his mind, and inform USMA with no problem. Happens all the time. He should not feel any pressure to make a decision; the appointment is his until he makes a decision within the designated timeframe.

Don’t forget USMA can offer appointments to fully qualified individuals on those slates and charge to other nom authorities they manage. If your son sees someone else on his slate get offered an appointment, he is not toast. If he’s fully qualified, he is still in play. And that appointee could be on the slate, but have a Presidential nom their appointment is being charged to.

And welcome new member of 18 minutes!
Be sure and read the posts (stickies) pinned at the top of forums. The Acronym List can be found in the home page.

I believe MOC have to submit nominations to USNA by Jan 31/Feb 1. Some do it sooner, others wait until the deadline. After that it can take some time for admissions to determine who will receive an appointment.

And when did you receive your appointment?
Received LOA mid November, cleared DoDMERB end of November. MOC interviews mid November and beginning of December. Received nomination, Dec 23 and again January 7. Portal changed from conditional LOA back to complete pending review yesterday, and from speaking with admissions officer, appointment should show between today and tomorrow.

Thank you and congratulations. I finished everything up mid October and has been complete pending review since beginning of November, so hopefully I will hear back soon.

No matter when you completed your application, early or near the deadline, you may be CPR for a long time. It’s not a ‘FIFO’ system. Most will know buy mid April to beginning of May. Look at prior year threads, and you will see lots of ‘TWE’ posts during this Spring timeframe. Some of those that received TWE’s finished up their application late summer, early fall. Others were in the winter.

Se expect that timeframe. If it’s sooner? Bonus happiness 💯!!

Again, FIFO doesn’t apply.

Can you be in CPR without a nom? My status has been incomplete since November. I have emailed and called admissions to confirm and they say I am up to date but my status has yet to change.

Yes. DS was in CPR back when he did not have nomination and DodMERB.
