USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

My DS received an LOA about a month ago and she just received her MOC NOM. The check mark is in the application! The LOA stated she would get an appointment if she fulfilled all the checkmarks. What are the next steps? Will she receive an email about the appointment? Is it snail mail? And what do you think the timing will be?

Her online dashboard/portal will switch from LOA to Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment and there will be an
"Accept" or "Decline" option.

Congratulations!

Her MOCs are notified and given three days to make a personal phone call, then an email from USNA to accept/decline the appointment, then the BFE in the mail (2-6wks usually). Be patient though. The appointment can happen any time now through April, depending on the order of slates admissions is working on. It just takes time.

My son got the big fat envelope today for USNA 2028. The application site showed "you have been offered USNA-Fully Qualified offer of Appointment" with "Decline" and "Accept" icons.

The big fat envelope comes after you accept.

So I assume you accepted awhile ago?

A little help here ... my son received a Conditional LOA the 1st week of October pending a nomination. He sent along the 3 applications on time to our 2 Senators and one Congressman. It's been crickets so far!! Any advice here?

MOCs may conduct their evaluation and selection process any way they wish - deadlines, info requested, interview/no interview, running the process right up to their slate due date to the SAs in 2024, notifying/not notifying candidates.

Theoretically, absolutely nothing might happen until a checkmark for a nom magically shows up in the candidate portal weeks from now.

All you can do is wait.

And please reassure us he applied for the VP nom? That is an at-large nom. USNA advises candidates on their website to apply for all noms for which they are eligible. That is typically 3 MOC plus VP, and any service-related or JROTC/ROTC noms.

Has he checked in with his MOCs to find out their timetables for when they might be doing interviews and/or determining nominations? Or, asking how they notify applicants? It really isn't going to hurt for him to make a call to the staffer responsible for each of the MOCs. If nothing else, he may have a chance to mention that he has the LOA and how important a nomination is in that context. Good luck to your son!

Maybe a couple days ago. He did not check the application site until we saw a mail on the way from USNA, then checked his status on the site.

My Daughter called, emailed, and followed up several times with all 3 offices.
She went to Academy Day and found the staffer for our Congressman and met with him, follow up with emails, visited the office 2-3 times dropping off things, and he even texted her some info.
1 of our Senators is a ghost and the other one followed up on 2 of the 5 emails.

She received the Nom last week and accepted her appointment this morning.
Don't be afraid to email or call and ask when the interviews will happen.

Thank you! That is exactly what happened this morning!!!!!
How many times did she log into her portal between Tuesday and this morning checking for that wonderful news, is the question.

209 days until I-Day (Thursday, June 27, 2024):)

Good evening everyone.

I am a candidate for the class of 2028 and have received and LOA, nomination (Representative), and am awaiting for DoDMERB clearance. I have spotted on the appointments forum that two fellow constituents (GA-6) from my district have received full offers of appointments already with an LOA. I am concerned that I could somehow lose an appointment spot if my district loses appointment spots despite my LOA. Is this in any way possible?

Thank you all!

An LOA plus a nom plus 3q (and any other stipulations on LOA) is an offer of appointment.

One of you will win the slate. The other two will be assigned elsewhere.

Ok I understand. Thank you very much for the help! I'm assuming this other "assignment" would be the national pool if I don't gain another nominating source?

You are in good shape.

You do not know what other nom sources those appointees may have.

Go read the pinned post at the top of the Nominations forum.

Do advanced reading here to understand more about nom sources and numbers:
