USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Have all of the appointments to USNA and or offers to NAPS been sent? And if so why all the pending?
No. NAPSters and prep tend to show later in the cycle. Pending people are being methodical worked through. USNA usually informs most of their status by mid-April. The appointment spigot stays on at a trickle into June.

I saw on FB someone was offered Naps today.

So April 15 is more of a soft date, is that correct?

Definitely your DS is not the only one. My DD went to SS and cleared everything with 2 noms but pending. Her friend also went to SS and same boat. This waiting has been giving me tears, heartaches, stresses and panic attacks. Hang in there!!!!
Let's hang together!!

Same here...went to SS and has 2 noms.....every day pending is a good day from what I see

Can someone explain what a "slate" is? My son has 2 noms.....one is MOC and the other is a JROTC
Think of a slate as just the list the nominating source submits. If you "win" your slate, that means you got picked off that list.

The best way to describe a nomination is that of an endorsement. While necessary, it does not always result in an appointment. Every year there are kids with multiple nominations who do not receive appointments, and we are seeing that in this thread. Receiving one gives you roughly a 23% chance at gaining an appointment, whereas not receiving one takes your chances to 0. My simple math is calculated as follows:

There were 5997 nominations and 1379 offers of appointment for the class of 2027. 1379 / 5997 = 23%. Here's the stats for the class of 2027:

Thanks Edmond, but I needed you to tell me that my DS has a 100% chance of an appointment. Can you re-word that? Just kidding of course and thanks for the reply. Best of luck to all. The fact that we are in this forum is a blessing.

Someone up there posted "the Navy doesn't want my kid." Actually, they may actually want, covet, love your kid. But there are only so many spots. Yes, those grades and scores and credentials are outstanding. Same for those who did win offer of appointment. They are as deserving, maybe even more so. (Note also that while Summer Seminar and sports camps are great experiences, they are worth zero points in the WCS.)

I presume candidates applied because they, above all, want to serve as commissioned officers. If the USNA path is closed -- at least for now -- there are other outstanding paths. Once the new O-1 pins on butter bars, what they did to get them hardly matters. They'll rise or fall based on performance, not on pedigree.

I do understand the disappointment. It's a bitter bill to swallow, the TWE. But beware also the sense of entitlement. It's unbecoming, and it can belittle the organization and those who are there. And you may still -- and can still -- be part of it. Best wishes for what lies ahead.
