USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Two questions:

1) Does "pending" have a fixed meaning regarding application status? IOW, does anyone know what triggers a change from "incomplete" to "pending"? This is related to question 2, below.

2) My son still has an "x" for incomplete next to "college transcript" even though his admissions counselor told him weeks ago that it was received. Does the "x" have to disappear before the admissions committee will review the application? Or is the counselor's representation, along with the "pending" status, enough?
Many of us have the same issue. Pending means we have all the required materials.

Were 7th semester grades requested? Only send them if requested. If the portal says 2/28 then that is the date. USNA deals with schools across the country and understands not all school semesters ended at the same time.
Our HS automatically sends 7th semester grades regardless of if the school or academy asks or not(or course we learned this after they were sent..first time senior!)
My DS was sick for almost a month and had a grade that wasn’t great in math. Thinking to send a letter to his AO explaining the blip? Any advice?

If its below a C I'd consider it especially if its a final grade. If its just a marking period grade that can be improved then less important

For anyone that may be here from Virginia, is it safe to say that if DS has not heard anything from Kaine yet, that it's probably bad news? We know his chances with both Senators are pretty slim, but just hoping for any type of good news.

Hi! We are from VA! I just checked with my DS and we have not heard a yay or nah from Kaine. Have heard from Wexton (Va 10) and Warner. I’ll let ya know if he hears anything. I technically think they have until the 31st to finish their slates. Good luck!!!:)

I believe Kaine has sent out notifications. DD received Kaine noms before Christmas

Thanks. I knew being homeschooled our DS's chances were virtually zero with Kaine, but would have been nice to know it was over. Especially since the candidates that did get nominations have known for over a month.

It’s tough… we were not expecting anything from Kaine, given he doesn’t do interviews. DD received LOAs to West Point in July and USAFA in Dec. The letter from Kaine was dated the day after she received the USAFA LOA.

Writing this out, since Kaine and Warner collaborate, I wonder if Kaine automatically nominates LOA recipients?

We are from VA too. If you look at the USNA 2028 Appointments Self-Updating List there is a VA candidate who accepted a Senator's Nom. Which Senator that is I have no idea but there's one down. We are in VA-11 and Connolly let everyone know right before Christmas. I can't recall when we heard from Warner but it was well before Christmas and that was to say no on an interview. There are so many candidates in Virginia it's crazy. Stay hopeful! So impressive to homeschool your kiddo all the way through!!

We were in VA-10 for when my 24' Mid applied. She had over 250 candidates interview. It was crazy! They changed the district lines since then and now Connolly has over 250 candidates and Wexton had 70 or so. Just goes to show year to year numbers change. Congrats on your DS with all she's accomplished! Is she applying to USNA? I saw West Point and USAFA LOAs....well done! Hope you have had good news from all and she can choose her #1!

Thanks! We are still working through medical, but she’s got a pretty awesome Plan B. DD is applying to USNA as well, but she hasn’t developed the same relationship with them. She was awarded the NROTC ISR so, if the Navy is her future, my guess is she will take that to her civilian school.

Speaking from my DS’s experience last year; he did not have an LOA and he did receive Sen Kaine’s nomination. It came by hard copy letter in late December. He did not get in! Va is TOUGH!!! Get a super solid plan b and plan c and get ready to get back on the horse! My DS is now a reapp CPer at the wondeful NROTC program at ODU! Good luck to us all and Go NAVY!!

Alternate plans are secure! The service academies were relatively late entries on the radar. I’m not sure she will reapply if she’s not able to get a waiver this year… my guess is she will be more likely to be a college programmer with ROTC and shoot for a side load either next summer or the summer after

Good Old DoDMERB. That being said, if she decides she wants to reapply, shoot me a PM. I'm on a third application, and know the ins and outs with exception to the actual board of admissions(obviously).

Hey all, does principal nomination basically mean a appointment? I was DQ'd for Asthma and I'm "pending waiver" under the USNA portal. I passed medically for my NROTC-MCO and played varsity Football (O-Line) during Senior Year. I'm qualified in terms of my CFA. Is there anything to worry about now, or should I start being less anxious?

You can’t be appointed to USNA without a waiver at this point. What communication have you received from DODMERB? Are they asking for AMI, a pulmonary test, etc?

Nothing from DODMERB. My nomination appeared yesterday, and so did a status change in the USNA portal. So, in the USNA portal it states: "Waiver Pending", and DODMERB says "Under Waiver Review"

DODMERB portal will update when more action is required- AMI, exam, testing, etc. Stay on top of checking for communication and gather medical records now, if possible. Waiver process can take weeks to months. My son went through it twice. Your job is to be timely and thorough.

Thank you sir! Will do. o7. Do you by any chance know if I can still receive a conditional appointment with a pnom?

Yes, it’s possible. It would be an LOA with conditions to be met such as DoDMERB qualification. If you have a principal nom and completed app, it will all get resolved eventually.
