USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Thanks for the response @justdoit19 .
I wasn’t being literal at all. And if it was “bold” it was a bold question.
I could see from last year that the Forum posts are 10%. I was looking for insight from some veterans of the SAF.
As to time better spent.. Plan B is to secure Room & Board at one of the NROTC choices.
The joke in our house every few days goes like this…… “Are you still Pending? Yup. I guess they’re still asleep at the wheel.”
Just humor …. Nothing mean about it

Probably, for people who know the totality of what is involved with the entire process, and how committed those involved, are (including lowly BGO’s like me, who are volunteers of our time but are wholly committed to their candidates) having a comment made about ‘dragging their feet’ can be off putting.

It’s hard to obtain nonverbal ques in a text post. So literal is usually default, absent an “lol”, or 😆 emoji. Apologies if it was read wrong!

No worries, they are working hard, for sure.

The waiting game can be really tough. While I appreciate the good suggestions of those who have "been there" to work on Plan B,C,Ds and to enjoy the last vestiges of Senior year......remaining patient isn't always so easy.
It’s not easy. But this is part of the process of learning to ‘hurry up and wait’ for those who aspire to a military life. It’s full of waits. Wait for this board, wait for this list, wait for promotion (it can be a year or more from being selected to promoted in some cases). Oh you got orders, just kidding, they changed. Yes, this is a big wait to know what college they will be attending, but the military is a life of hurrying up to wait. The waits get harder and more complicated.

Don’t refer to yourself as a”lowly BGO” @justdoit19.
From what I see, the BGO is part of the foundation to the admissions process.
BGO was 1st to encourage Plan B and C.
Knowing that the NROTC is secured takes a lot of heat off all of us.
So grateful!!

We spoke to someone in admissions at an event and he did confirm that they got a late start this year. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We heard roughly the same from an AO. The issues with the admissions portal took up a lot of their time during the fall and now they're behind. They'll get there eventually.

The year they implemented the new portal was much worse. Still working out changes each year, but that year was even worse. They will work through it like they do everything.

I got this resolved. USNA had put my transcript in my file, but never updated my portal with a check. I emailed saying I wanted to confirm they received it, and they responded saying they had it on file. I uploaded my Personal Statement and my app changed to Pending without a check on college transcript.View attachment 15223
I’m in the same boat, my first semester grades are the only thing missing from my application and I sent it the same time as you as well.

DS is in same boat. Email confirmation the week before last from his Admissions Counselor that he had received the college transcript, but the "X" remains in DS portal. Status is "Pending."

Please please do that folks!! Solid backup plans!:) Don’t assume ya got in (my DS learned this hard last year)! Also something he learned last year that I wanna remind everyone here about; if you have any updates to your application (new transcript with semester grades, additional jobs or volunteer positions, more sports, or awards etc) remember to put them in by the 31st of January. If you don’t put them in by the 31st they won’t review them (happened to my DS last year so want to help everyone out this year)! CaptMJ, or one of you other amazing folks can correct me if I’m wrong, but this was his personal experience! Good luck to my DS (reapp from ODU NROTC - which is awesome btw -highly recommend) and all of you!!!:) Go Navy!!:)

I can say my son's BGO is great. If my memory serves me correctly, he works/worked in nuclear engineering and my DS's favorite part of NASS was the nuclear engineering class. He was very insightful for him.

The school district here does not release the 7th semester grades until the end of January. Therefore, no guarantee that they will be received by Jan 31. Ugh. However, specifically in the USMA portal, it says the 7th semester grades are due by Feb 28. So this would be the exception?

How can I upload the 7th-semester transcript to USMA/USNA/USAFA? I had my counselor make my 7th-semester transcript early and he gave me a copy, but I can't find where you would add it for any of the academies. School councilor responsibility?

USMA can be updated by the contact you have listed for the first 6, that's how we updated ours. The other 2 SA's I believe they will ask for the 7th and then 8th if you get an appointment.

Really?? My admission counselor was adding rewards to my file I received in March or April. The first Admissions counselor I had did not allow that.

Were 7th semester grades requested? Only send them if requested. If the portal says 2/28 then that is the date. USNA deals with schools across the country and understands not all school semesters ended at the same time.

Thank you for your response, and yes, they were requested on the portal. And I just NOW realized that this was a USNA thread. USMA is the one who requested. My error!

Is that the case? Only send when USMA requests? Didn't even know the date for 7th semester transcript until I looked on the portal and clicked on the little arrow by transcripts......

In this case, my DS knew they wanted the 7th semester ones by dropping down on the arrow in the HS transcript box. But he did also just receive a letter in his portal with a checklist of items they still need. The only thing checked was 7th semester transcripts with a due date. He's just eagerly waiting for the district to release them. His hands are tied until the district moves on it.

Two questions:

1) Does "pending" have a fixed meaning regarding application status? IOW, does anyone know what triggers a change from "incomplete" to "pending"? This is related to question 2, below.

2) My son still has an "x" for incomplete next to "college transcript" even though his admissions counselor told him weeks ago that it was received. Does the "x" have to disappear before the admissions committee will review the application? Or is the counselor's representation, along with the "pending" status, enough?
