USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Looking at the other candidates, I'm not sure if I will get accepted. My SAT is too low, my extracurriculars are too few etc. I know internationals and national candidates are different, but I'm sure the other international candidates have better stats as wellšŸ˜
Please please please donā€™t use the posted stats as a barometer at all for you personally. Itā€™s based on so so so much more than the numbers. And never ever get down and think you arenā€™t enough! You totally are in every way. Just getting to this point in the process, you are an incredible young person who will succeed in life even if they donā€™t start out at Navy. At my DSā€™s first CVW, a firstie gave an excellent talk. He was from Mississippi and had gotten straight As in school and was leader and sports and all but he took his ACT 8 times (yes, I said 8) and never got higher than a 22. The admissions board takes all this into account. They sent him to NAPS and heā€™s crushed the Naval Academy. They are great at stripping away the advantages of certain backgrounds and areas and schooling and finding the mids that will succeed at Navy and later run the fleet. Itā€™s an odd process for sure, but trust it. Keep smiling and keep your chin up!!:) Go NAVY!

The ONLY way you dont get in for sure, is to not apply.

Iā€™ve said here often, that if my 2 guys read on here they may have thought they didnā€™t have a chance. BUT, they both got in. And with the same resumes, they both received first round NROTC scholarships (which indicates a desirable candidate).

Your resume doesnā€™t measure the intangibles, such as grit and determination. Future officer material. Give USNA a chance to know what you have to offer them!

Donā€™t compare yourself to others. Dont listen to the noise.

My DD said her summer seminar leader was accepted with a 1040 SAT... He did have lots of varsity and leadership experience on his resume. So it all depends- Can't just based it all on you sat number because there is more to you than that! Good luck and can this PENDING finally end!

At this point it ending is much more of a coin flip

Do you all think that it is a good or a bad thing that we haven't heard back this late in the cycle? does it mean that we are that close on the bubble? IJust make sure you have Plans B and C in place.
The cycle is right on schedule so don't read too much into anything. Most will have their decision by mid April.

I know the wait is difficult and this process is excruciatingly long, but you are near the end. Hang in there as these next couple weeks will come soon enough. Make sure you have Plans B and C lined up in case you don't get the news you want.

Fingers crossed for you!

Do you all think that it is a good or a bad thing that we haven't heard back this late in the cycle? does it mean that we are that close on the bubble? I have hope because I went on a CVW and I was invited in July to do it and apparently a CVW is a good sign.
The majority of the appointments likely go about from mid March to Mid April. I know it seems like it is late in the cycle, but it really isn't. Don't worry about what is a good sign or bad sign. Don't put too much stock into what you did versus what someone else did. If you put forth your best application, then all the other stuff doesn't matter. In the next few weeks you will get a appointment or not. Chances, signs, odds, amount of appointments already offered, etc, etc. All that doesn't matter. You will be awarded or not. Once you get the notice, you can then make a decision what you are going to do. You might be elated, or you might be miserable. I don't know, but I can promise you that checking constantly and over analyzing stuff will not make the notice come faster or make yourself feel better.

I really hope you get a appointment and I am rooting for you. I'm just trying to help you understand that worrying too much about it is not helping. Ask most Mids about what they would do different when they waiting for a appointment. I'm willing to bet that most will say "stay away from the forum/portal and spend time with friends and family" or a version of this.

Good luck, be positive, go be productive and stay way from the portal!!

My status has been pending since I submitted my application. Will it change depending on whether or not I receive an appointment? What will it change to? If I don't receive an appointment will I know?

Yes, you will know if you have been:

- Turned down
- Offered a full appointment
- Offered a conditional appointment
- Waitlisted
- Offered a NAPS appointment
- NAPS waitlisted
- Offered a Foundation program

Thank you for this! Are all categories typically still a scattered throughout the next month? Or are some more likely to be bulk on a date close to April 15?

Most are scattered with some days of more notifications that others. There is often a bulk "turned down" notification day in April with some waitlisted. Then the majority of the waitlisted are shown as "turned down" a week or so later.

Be postive. Until you get turned down, you are in it.

Why do they do a ā€œturn downā€ day? If I donā€™t get in and they have a pretty good idea that they will give a spot to someone else then Iā€™d rather just rip the bandaid off now and know something rather than wait another two weeks šŸ˜šŸ˜

Glad you brought that up Blinkus!:) I hope you wonā€™t leave us now that you are all appointed; Iā€™d miss ya! I heard the same at USMMA last week that a few days prior (so letā€™s go with 10 days ago) the USNA had only offered 300 appointments total. They are behind and we should all just know that only a quarter (plus a bit) of the class are already appointed!:) Lots of spots to go!
Can anyone else corroborate this? If so, this would be a huge relief!

I don't think it really matters, and I also don't think there is any way to corroborate those numbers. I will say that number is probably not very accurate, only because there are almost 100 appointments just listed on this site. Obviously, only a small percentage of people are actually reporting to this forum (some have stated 10% +/- in any given year). It's not impossible, but have to imagine if Annapolis is only 300 appointments deep this late in March, they are way, way behind.
