USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

There’s a reason why I don’t give my portal logins to my parents… I made a very stupid and humiliating password and I can’t let them know 😅😅. In serious words, if I get a BFE/TWE, I’d rather tell them myself than let a stupid computer screen tell them.

Yeah, it was my kid's decision and journey. I certainly helped him along the way with navigating things, giving advice, and giving "reminders" to get his s--t done. But, I never asked, nor accessed his portal.

He shares nearly everything about his journey with us anyway, so I can't complain.

Speaking of that ..... they had their Alpha yesterday (big room inspection each semester) and got the necessary "pass." Said when he went to throw out some trash, some random firstie doing the inspections told him to "plebe your corner" and was being a d--k to him. His company commander (CC) was like, "he's a youngster," and they had to watch the firstie squirm a bit. But he still tried to lay into my kid because his tuck was messed up a little from one of his shirt stays popping while he was scrubbing the floor. Even the inspecting dude's classmates were giving him the WTF look.

My kid being my kid, when he came back up the stairs he ripped of a plebe corner right in front of the CC and got a giggle.

Fun times. :p

Same for me. When I got my second nomination, I was so excited to tell my parents with a cake and then my dad already knew because he has my gmail logged in on his phone (as he does with my siblings as well) and they sent me an email. I talked to him and he turned off notifications cause it's important for me to be able to reveal that as I wish

Change ALL of that when school is over.

And that’s from a parent perspective.

Time for you to adult.

For some parents it may be tough to give up their role as driver. That’s all they have known for you for your whole life. But believe me, even for parents that it is a shock to their system initially, eventually it’s a relief. So even if they protest, you are doing them a favor.

This really is the beginning of you adulting!!

So proud of our young forum members, on the cusp of leaving their nests and flying with their new adult wings. With that come great reward. Make good choices!!

This x one million!! Our oldest (21) still has his checking account from when he was under 18 (zero motivation to change it). If he doesn’t change it next year, I’ll request that he does. It’s attached to ours - which I get (ease of $ transfer 😂) but at some point it’s time to adult & cut the cords. Both times, I never had access to their SA/DODMERB/ROTC portals & emails. I don’t want it. I’m doing them zero favors if I try to micromanage this process because it’s gets real very fast once they leave. We need to be there to guide but they also need this time & these experiences to test out those wings. We absolutely discuss possible email responses, how to handle situations, even provide suggested verbiage … but … I believe firmly that they need to own this. I know there are different opinions on this & I believe in “you do you” but no one will change my mind on this - I will die on this hill 😂….

Also, their future wives thank you 😂😂

I read here someplace that status on the USNA Candidate portal home page will update from “pending” once everything is complete to something else (Complete-In Review, maybe?). How long did this status update taken for others?

People noticed their portal switch to Complete - Pending Review a few days before an offer was made, but it doesn't seem to be a thing anymore

Mine changed to Complete Pending Review the day after I received an email. So I'm pretty sure you'll hear via email or phone first.

My mom found out that I got a QNS from WP before I did (this was back when their portal was down for some so I had her log in for me at her work). So that was just a little bit awkward.
