USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

I know I have seen a lot of talk about plan B, and we did our best to encourage more options for our DS. He went to Inspire and NASS and is absolutely determined to attend the USNA. His plan B is UCF and to re-apply next year if all else fails. Still pending now. Prayers for all on this day and the days coming. God bless all of these future leaders.
My roommate reapplied from UCF! :) She did ROTC there and had a blast!

My DS BGO was not responsive to him and interview came so late than the other 2 SAs. The BGO did apologize and my DS was understading that this is a volunteer job. But still replying after few weeks was not a good experience while the other SAs were actively communicating with him. Despite of this, USNA remains to be my DS’ top choice.

Anyway, still Pending. Was hoping for some news today. 😩

However if it’s plan A, Epic Ski pass for military is a killer deal and you’ll want to buy that anyway! And mids qualify for that. Best deal ever!
yeah the discount is great, if he gets into the SA, I don't think he would have enough time away from school to use....at least not the early years. I don't know this to be a fact, but what I see is the schedule is pretty tight. We like to fly Friday afternoon to Denver and ski Saturday and Sunday, fly home Sunday evening.

Got it, we live near Epic resorts so when she’s home for Christmas break she can get more than two days in. Definitely worth it if you can ski more than two days. I’m still hoping you don’t have to renew your current pass. 😉

thank you, it would be nice to not have to renew it.... if we do its so worth it. Vail alone is l like 250 a day if you buy by the day

Don't retire!! My gut feeling is that you have too much to offer.
Actually, to be honest, another BGO friend and I were ready to pull the pin about 10 yrs ago for "reasons". He was a former Parents Club President and lived in my town. Then he up and died (how dare him!). The next time I looked up it was years later and I was still steaming as before.

I'll share a funny reason it would be nice to hear yes or no decision beyond the much more important reasons... I'm waiting to see if I should renew my DS Epic ski pass (sale ending soon). If its plan A he wont have time to use it for the value in it. If Its Plan B then he will have normal weekend life and we can use it.
Where do you find the pass for this? Sounds great!

Keep steaming. DS's BGO's, last year and this, did what they committed to. As far as I know. Both were open and honest about his status, which is all he needed. Answered questions that were asked, in a timely manner? Not aways, but he understands he's not the only applicant. I would be suspect if a BGO was available 24/7. In the end all is well. I, as a parent have gained the insight of many like you thorugh both years of this. Grateful.

During my son's cycle (class of 2024), his BGO was active duty and was TDY overseas. He wasn't Johnny on the spot in terms of responding to emails, but he got it done. Getting a BGO interview in early doesn't change a darn thing in terms of competitiveness or getting your file reviewed earlier.

Sure they could review the interview, and I'm sure they do since they start meeting in August, but even if you have been reviewed in August, you are still waiting for MOCs dates to close and their slates to be submitted.

Most of us have full-time jobs and families, and we do care about our candidates, otherwise we wouldn't do this. This is my first cycle, and I had 12 candidates.

I reached out to all of them with the introduction letter. Only two responded to the email. So I got their cell numbers and tried to reach out via text, since that's how kids roll these days. Only one of them replied. At that point, I'm not going to continue to try to lead them to water or engage. I can't care about their candidacy more than they do.

I had one who I hadn't heard anything from. Early January my Area Coordinator reaches out to all BGOs who have candidates without an interview. I reached out to the candidate, they hadn't requested an interview, hadn't finished their app, and advised me they had accepted an appointment to USAFA. News to me.

I had only two advance enough in their portal to warrant interviews. And taking notes during an interview, reading back through notes and resumes, and then doing the BGO write-up is time consuming.

My one remaining candidate reached out to me Saturday, just nerves kicking in. I couldn't tell him anything he didn't already know. Most will wait until 15 April to 1 May. Some will know in the early weeks of May. I did remind him he has a stellar Plan B, and he should focus on spending time with family and friends as regardless of how this plays out, he will be leaving his home, friends, family, state and current way of life to pursue his goals of military service and leadership.

Everyone is stressed, every candidate has skin in the game. So do moms and dads. We get it. Every college in the country has a 1 May deadline, and only SAs require physical fitness tests, MOC nominations, VP noms, ROTC noms, Presidential noms, medical, optical and hearing exams, one one interviews..... you get the picture. This isn't a normal admission process, and if you are successful, nothing about your life moving forward will be normal.

Thank you for this!

I think they have enough TD today and DS will earn one ! can't join navy, beat navy !

Sounds very much like my mid a couple years back. We were actually the ones to apply to FIU lol and then we “force” the application to UF. But it was USNA OR NOTHING !!

Thanks for sharing this. We’ve often wondered what things looked like for BGOs- how many students they were navigating, what those relationships looked like etc. that is wild that most did not respond to your outreach attempts. Makes me wonder what DDs BGOs thought of her, as she sent a few little random check in emails and little updates throughout the process (ie, this past year she did her CFA with her BGO over Thanksgiving break, and she sent him a little note at the end of the fall semester to let him know how her semester wrapped up and to wish him a happy new year, that kind of thing).

Is the portal down for anyone else? Maybe things are getting ready to happen!?

I didn't think anything negative of them, I do think a professional courtesy would have been for them to respond, but they are teens, and not all have those skills yet. I did think they were likely in the pool of candidates who open an app, and don't intend to proceed to the end.
