USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

How many times did she log into her portal between Tuesday and this morning checking for that wonderful news, is the question.

209 days until I-Day (Thursday, June 27, 2024):)
Good call out on the I Day date. Buckle up.

June 27, 2024 is the I-day, confirmed? So I now need to book hotel in advance. How many days that parents can stay on site, 2 or 3 days?

A handy link for you on usna.edu:

Now, go to Plebe Summer Home on usna.edu, dive into links and drop-down menus. It still has the class of 2027 info, but info will be updated in late spring for 2028. This will give you a general idea.

Incoming plebes are given a time to report, starting very early that day. Then you see them for a short period after the oath late afternoon. They belong to the Navy by then. I would say most people spend 1-2 nights in the area beforehand. Leave that night or next day depending on travel required.

Not sure what you mean by “on-site.” Much depends on if you want to wander around Annapolis a bit or go into DC or Baltimore.

Browse the dozens of threads about I-Day - lots of good insights.

The Academy is a historic monument. It is open to the public every day (unless force protection levels preclude that). All you have to do is show a valid ID and go through the security gate to gain access.

There will be people watching your kids every day of the year. Especially during the summer. Kids feel like they are in a fishbowl. And yes, there will be parents there almost the whole summer, watching PT, seeing the various evolutions on the Yard, and gawking and snapping photos to play "Where's Waldo."

We arrived in Annapolis on Tuesday morning and left Friday afternoon. There's plenty to do and it gave our plebe-to-be a chance to relax a bit and to meet with some of his new classmates. You should make your travel plans ASAP especially if you want to be within walking distance to the Yard.

You cannot stay on site. You can stay in Annapolis as long as you want. There is very little for you to do at the academy after I day.

Will "local" groups/forum chats start soon to connect students? Example- North GA class of 2028 USNA- I know my daughter would like to meet a few prior to I day. (she has found a couple already)

There is actually a hotel on yard but only midshipmen are able to book it for parents. I recommend finding an Airbnb..

Sidenote: DTA is cool, but realize that your kid is probably stressed and nervous so try and put some distance between them and the academy. They'll be here for 4 years, plenty of time to look around:)

A1Procrastinator here.

I always book at the last minute. For others like me, don’t fret. I was always able to get in at Historic Inns of Annapolis - which was a great location imo.

Wow, am I really at a point where the only thing that determines my fate is life?

Well I've been doing all of the right things. I've enjoyed leaving as big of an impact possible before walking out come June to pursue "bigger" and "better" things somewhere in the north-east.

My biggest fear: Was I so focused on the future that I forgot the value of the present?

To be ready for the future you have to sacrifice some of the present. That is what the service academy demands to a certain extent. To get in a school with a sub 10% acceptance rate, you have to sacrifice a lot during high school, or college in my case. I know for a fact that I missed a lot of high school, but it paid off.

What do you mean on site?
Thanks, will try to book a hotel for two or three days before and after the I-day. And, when will be the last day of the Plebe summer? Should parents also show up? What date will that be?

They will have a plebe parent weekend towards the end. Not sure of date.

And, when will be the last day of the Plebe summer?
The last day of Plebe Summer is usually the Thursday after Plebe Parent's Weekend. Most parents don't attend unless they're locals. The evening's festivities (when the Plebes meet the upperclass members of their Company) are called Hell-O Night.

My DS (2027) sacrificed nothing in high school. He continued his long term focus on excellence and having a sense of duty to school and family. He did not complete his application until the due date but received an appointment as soon as his slate was ready. I would encourage candidates to enjoy senior year and their friends.
