USNA Class of 2029 Waiting, Speculating, Hoping

There is no "typical" timeline to receive a decision. The delay ranges from days to months, depending on factors that are opaque to, and not in the control of, the candidates.

Try to focus on living your best life with your family and friends until and after you do receive a decision.

How long does it typically take to receive a decision from USNA after the application is fully complete? My Nomination was the last thing I needed and has finally been entered. USNA waived my medical in November and now my app is fully done.
Anytime between now and April-May.

Hello everyone, I have been listening here for a couple of months. This forum is indeed so helpful in so many ways. We appreciate the support candidates and parents can receive. My DS also completed his application with "completed pending review" as a status. It has been in that status since before Christmas when he got his MOC nomination. As a plan B, he also applied for NROTC and completed that process as well. However, this morning we found out that the NROTC representative send him an email stated that USNA passed him my DS's name to offer him an opportunity to apply for the NROTC scholarship. We are a little worried thinking if that is because the Academy will not offer him an appointment but still think he is a good candidate so instead offer him NROTC opportunity ? Or is this a standard procedure? I wonder any of the veterans here will have any experience or wisdom about this.

It’s generally expected that anyone applying to USNA is also applying to NROTC as the end goal should be a commission and NROTC is another way to achieve that. A USNA appointment and an NROTC scholarship are not mutually exclusive though, and the two admissions boards don’t really talk to each other that much

It's standard. Don't read anything into it.

You are correct that the two boards do not collaborate but at the local level, the two entities often work together. I've worked a number of events alongside local NROTC leaders as well as the Officer Recruiters from the regional office. While I do not pass my candidates info to the local NROTC units, I do urge them to apply and provide contacts if asked.

If you do not receive a nomination by February 1, are you "out"? My kid has everything complete and green checks except for nomination.

Not 100% out. A few things to consider, they are still in the running for NAPS or Foundation. There is always the very limited VP nom as well.

Ok thanks!
As indicated by Navy Hoops, not out but also wanted to share this to prepare yourself if this scenario unfolds for many again this year. DS didn't get a nomination last year. That was not unexpected, only because strike 1 we are in Virginia, and strike 2, we are probably in the 1st or 2nd hardest district to secure a USNA nomination in. So the competition was brutal. We also only had access to congressional nominations, (and VP) so presidential and ROTC noms were not a possibility. He was prepared that he might not get a nomination. What he was not prepared for is for USNA to keep him pending until 4/17 (he was not the only one). When the turn down came abruptly on that day, he was absolutely crushed. Not because so much of the turn down, but the fact that it didn't make sense for Annapolis to keep him on the hook that long when the answer was going to be "no". It wasn't all him either, his BGO thought he was being looked at for NAPS. When the dust finally settled, he didn't even get a waitlist. It pretty much ruined the rest of his senior year and the majority of his summer. That turn down would have been digested way better in February or March. The only solace was that I know some candidates in his same position were still pending even in May, which is surely a form of torture.

I mention this not to complain about Annapolis, after all it's their ship and they can drive it however they want (even if I do think it was cruel). I just want people to be absolutely prepared for any scenario, and if you do happen to still be in the game without a nomination, consider any positive outcome in regards to USNA to be a pleasant, but ultimately remote possibility. Plans B, C, D, etc should be in full effect and as difficult as it may be, put USNA in the rear view mirror (at least until the next cycle). The entire college admissions process was a disaster last year with FAFSA issues and the level of competition, and while FAFSA may or may not be fixed this time, the competition will not be any easier. Make sure you have those back up plans solid so you are not left out in the cold.

Wow. appreciate you sharing. I was frustrated with VA senators telling some there were unsuccessful and not others but this is a whole different level.

Thank you for sharing, that had to be so difficult I can't imagine....and appreciate the insight to try to prepare for what many of us will experience. My DD seems chill on the outside right now about the waiting, but I know as more friends start to 'know' what they are doing in the fall this will turn up the heat on the waiting to find out. Excited and celebrating for everyone who is appointed to an SA and Prep.....and quietly praying & hoping for the rest of us. Hang in there everyone! Happy Friday!

Is USNA required to select a candidate from every congressional nomination source? If they do, how many people get selected from the national pool or selected as the 2nd appointee from their slate if USNA decides to look back at that slate?

One appointee per congressional slate

Other appointments can be made through the national pool or other nominations the candidate may have.

USNA can’t “look back” at a slate, one appointee will be charged to that slate and everyone else will be selected through the national pool or their other nominations. ( or turned down)

Potentially all 15 nominees on a slate could be selected, although that would be pretty crazy and unlikely.

A little something to get the adrenaline going and lighten spirits during The Wait.

An amazing insight into what makes the "arrivals" look so easy! THANK YOU! And I do believe it's GO VOLS!! Must be a "spring game" because the upper stands are empty.
