USNA Parents weekend

Typically they get to spend the night.
Unless something changed after Class of 2022, this is not correct. They need to return each night by 2300 or 2400.

And therein is a rub. Need to find a distance from the Yard that’s far enough that mid can breathe a bit, but close enough that the trek back doesn’t endanger their on-time return. It can get backed up around Gate 1 near reporting time. Best bet is to be on the Yard an hour or two early and just hang out or stroll around with them.

We discovered this last year, that some of the suite hotels with kitchens were a good alternative to Airbnb’s, as hotels were 100pct cancelable. We went over our allotted “service fee returned 3 times” piece of cancelling Airbnb’s over the last year, semper-gumbying 🙄🙄

Just know what you are signing. Some Airbnb’s are cancellable. But the Airbnb piece is not refundable beyond 3 times a year (rolling calendar). And you have to request it.

It’s a personal choice, but we rented away from DTA during parents weekend. Plebes want to be away, not only from the yard, but from detailers in civies out and about DTA 👀
THANK YOU! 🤗

Yes, I stand corrected. They get to 2300 or 2400.

Good evening all 🤗

I am making “jello-ee“ reservations for parent plebe weekend and wondering if we should arrive 8/11 and leave 8/16? Does anyone happen to know/remember how early in the morning plebes are allowed to leave on 8/12? Time they need to report back on 8/15?

This is not a normal year, so no clue if recent precedent will prevail. If it did, it would look like this:

Plebe parade on Friday. Following parade, about 1100, liberty begins. Many bring their folks into Mother B to see their room. Some take their folks into King Hall for lunch. They need to report back that night — 2300, I believe.

On Saturday, liberty begins at 0800. Again, they need to report back that night.

On Sunday, liberty begins at 0800. They need to report back that afternoon — it was either 1600 or 1800, I believe.

On Monday, with mom and dad safely gone, the plebes get “destroyed” (to use DD’s term) for having too much fun over the weekend. 😳

Again, do not bank on this. It’s not a normal year.

I tried to look up the Class of 2023 PPW, which would have had the typical pre-pandemic schedule. No luck in finding it; 2024’s virtual info is still up on USNA.edu

IF things are roughly the same…I’ve seen plenty of PPWs go and come

Working backwards, it always seems to me plebes have to report back in late afternoon on Sunday.

I think they can depart around 0800 on Sunday morning.

Ditto Saturday morning, with liberty expiring around 2300 or 2400.
Friday, I want to say there is an opportunity to observe PEP very early. Is there a plebe parade late morning? Possible room visit (maybe not, pandemic). Then cut loose on liberty, to the usual 2300-2400.
Warning: For all returns to the Yard, start early, as 1100+ families will be headed in the same direction. Your plebe will be paranoid about not being late and will mentally detach well before liberty expires. They may even jump out of the car and start running…

Incredibly helpful to have an idea of what it would entail under normal circumstances...Thank you!

As a 2024 parent, I may offer to be your third wheel for your parent events. We didn’t get them and I am so hopeful you get yours.
I might be that odd mom attending events where her not plebe might be. Just sayin.

;)
You are absolutely welcome to join us! I will most likely need you to keep reminding me that I will survive the 4 years without DS being in reach
😭😭😭. Maybe USNA is hiring and I could get a job there...kinda kidding 🤣

I’ve got you. You will be better at this than you think. When your kiddo takes off and manages their crud and nails it? That’s when you know you are now in the fan status. You did well. They are handling it. Now you get to be their cheerleader and soon a confidant. A beautiful transition. It will blow your mind what they can handle and manage.

I hear Friday morning PT is a must. For class of '23, we showed up Thursday morning. The stands were blocked off and finding a spot to watch was limited, so I did not go Friday. Big mistake. Friday the stands were available and it was much more parent friendly, from what I heard. Those that went said it was a don't miss.

Try to get your parents’ yard access card the day before or you may have wait until later to be allowed through the gate

We also attended early morning parade practice on Thursday. It was so beautiful, early morning sun. Hardly anyone watching so great seats. Loved spotting our guy for the first time in months. Waved. Cried. Took distant photos.

It wasnt him 🙄😂. We found out during Friday morning pep. He was SIQ...in fact we weren’t sure we would even have him for the weekend, but that’s another story.

Our family y early in the week. Monday. Did lots of sight seeing. Day tripped to the Atlantic Ocean one day (highly recommend that state park, from Capt MJ’s rec). Got our DBIDS card early in the week when there were no lines.

That parents weekend is one of my best memories thus far. Didn’t get it with our ‘24 of course. But laying eyes on your Mid after plebe summer....SO MANY EMOTIONS. Has to be one of my top-ten moments with him, to date.

Bringing binoculars for sure!

Got up pre-dawn, ran to the yard from our rental (I mean if my kid gets up that early for a workout, I'll commit to one as well) to watch pep and...our son had colors that morning. Had no idea as they still didn't have phones to let me know. A little worrisome not seeing my son in the line up but I figured if they'd lost him, we'd have been contacted. It was still incredible finding other parents, huddled in the stands in front of our plebes Company flag to get a glimpse of their kiddos for the first time! Parent Weekend is my second favorite visit to the yard behind Herndon. If you can only pick one time to visit, PICK HERNDON!
