USNA Service Assignment 2022

Thank you! I know it is early in the game for My Plebe (who is our only Son) but he his focused 110% on SEALS. I am already loosing sleep and praying daily he changes his mind…or doesn‘t get selected if he ultimately qualifies.
@93RN, please try not to worry yourself too much. My mother was concerned that I was going to actually fly an airplane. There is a lot that can happen in the next two years. Class ‘24 did PROTRAMID this past summer. Normally it takes place after Youngster year. They were exposed to the many career possibilities the services have to offer. I hope USNA sticks with this change. Don’t be surprised if one day, or in more days, he comes home and says, ‘Mom, I’m considering X”. He will. And you being there to listen will be of great consolation. Now put away the angst and get some good sleep;). Stay well. WT.

Great advice. I had to quell my own anxiety when my '24 told me he had been upside down in a plane. And drove (wrong terminology, I'm sure) a nuclear submarine...... not normal parent conversations for sure. But man did he LOVE both experiences. Being in the side car of this ride is so much fun.

Wooooooowwwww…..wow.

Wonder where that person ended up.
Let’s hope they picked up the pieces, gathered up a newfound sense of purpose and restraint, eventually finished their degree, and are using all the potential that got them an appointment in a fulfilling career and a purposeful approach to life built on the wisdom of experience.

As a taxpayer I will ask if this can be live streamed next year.
If the NFL can monetize their draft over a week, why not USNA for a few hours? Other than for those who get assigned to a place they don't want to be, it would be awesome to celebrate with these men and women

I am actually in the other camp. Ship selection is streamed, that is the time to celebrate. In my opinion this should not be streamed. This is one of those events that should be shared with your classmates and without other eyes. As you have seen other posts, as many highs as there are, the lows of the day are crushing. It’s one of those moments that brings your company mates and classmates together even more. It doesn’t need observers. Just my view

Plebe year over a hundred midshipmen state it as their first choice on the preference survey.
Plebes are young and gungy (super motivated); that wears off over 4 years. I recall my Plebe Summer, Squad leader asked how many wanted to fly -- about 10 of the 12 person squad stuck out their paw. In my Company of about 25, we ended up with about 5-6 who flew (both pilot and NFO).

Wow, 35 is a lot! That is great news. I think my class had 15 or 16.
Back in the day, direct SEAL selection was pretty rare. My understanding is that the total Special Warfare community is much larger than it was back then.

You went thru this experience so your opinion weighs more than a helicopter parent :)

Selecting his walk-up music for Ship Selection night, of course!!!
Actually prepping for beers I guess 🍻 😂😂

Celebration tonight for the whole class. On the Yard. Don’t know if that’s normal but glad to hear they will be there and not out knocking on annapolitans doors 😬

He was actually more worried for getting drafted to Marines, than subs. He said that Marines had to “draft” some Mids. Due to lack of ‘22’s having a PROTRAMID, and leatherneck being particularly awful.

His company did very well. All but 2 getting their first pick! And those two received their 2nd. No sadness or disappointments.

I will sleep well tonight…my Mid is happy 😴 💤
