USNA Service Assignment 2022

I had a very sad call with my 2/C tonight. Suffice it to say he is cynical beyond anything I’ve ever heard from him. High OOM had not opened any doors. Hope he gets beyond it. My wife and I cannot help him except to listen.
Can I ask you what was the bad news?

Here's the link to the breakdown of numbers per assignments.
My take away from this was the bottom line. 1108. They made it. They stuck it out through Covid and challenges and lack of trainings and misery. They followed through with their desire to serve and lead. Gives me chills.

As a plebe, DD said she’d be happy with any warfare community except USMC. As a firstie, she turned 180 degrees and said it was USMC or bust.
this 180 sounds very familiar. DD did not even wanted to start USNA application and she finally ended up choosing USNA. As a plebe now, USMC is last on her list as of right now, only time will tell which side does the camel sits.

Sorry to hear this. 😟

I do not think the interest in SWO lies with 5 and dive. There will always be those kids who come with that intention and I'm sure some have become disenchanted during Covid, but don't underestimate the power of those influencing our mids on the Yard. There have been some amazing SWO mentors and educators on campus especially the last couple of semesters. USNA is making war fighters with a broad world view who understands the immense importance of a powerful presence on the sea. These kids are broadly exposed to YPs, navigation and sailing. Mine went in with big plans of flying. Worked hard, has a great class rank and passed all the flight physicals, but decided that he fell in love with the sea and knows that is where he's meant to serve. Class of 22 didn't get Protramid and in the absence of other exposure a lot of kids will learn to love what they're exposed to most.
