USNA Visit Question

Here you go. There is a section called ‘spend a day on the Yard’.

Awesome place. But triple check the timing. It's a solid 30-45 to DC, and even if you're going around, it's another 30-45 to Quantico. Agree with those who said to focus on Naptown unless you have another day or two. DC by itself is a day, and that's barely skimming the surface of Northwest. Heck, I spend an hour just milling around and eating at the Amish Market in Naptown. 😅
I had my 'texas drive time' brain still enabled I guess.. two hour drives are pretty common over here 😂

Some days in DC traffic, 2 hours will only get you halfway around the beltway .........

Sounds great! I just have to figure out how to PM you first
New folks need to be a member at least a week along along with enough posts, which you already have. So, hopefully a few more days and you should see the PM option.

The PM icon will look like an envelope and it'll be next to your user name.

Couple ideas ..reach out to your BGO. He/she may be able to make arrangements with Admissions to have someone show you around, or at least meet with you. (I've done it several times over the years..there is no formal program, but Admissions is usually accomodating unless in a crunch time). If you can't get a tour, Admissions runs a daily drop in Admissions briefing, but all means attend that and introduce yourself.

If you only have one day ...don't plan too much outside of Annapolis.. or even too much outside the Yard. If you get in, you will have plenty of time to explore the surrounding area.

Finally, as to attire --OP didn't say what time of year they were visiting. If meeting with Admissions , I would avoid the shorts. Khaki trousers and a nice button up or polo shirt would appropriate anytime. The goal should be a professional appearance that does not stick out awkwardy (ie. avoid logo'd shirts, or tshirts , particularly from other schools !0

Good luck and enjoy.

Does anyone know if you can go to another CVW after being appointed? If I get accepted I would like to go visit again before I-Day

If you are going to accept the offer of appointment, I wouldn’t. If you are debating different options and you need to, ok.

The CVW is a marketing tool to get candidates interested.

Oh okay. In that case, I will probably just try and go on my own initiative. I might just go to Annapolis a couple of days before I-day. Thanks for the information!

LOL...trust me, you will have 4 years to explore Annapolis and will be sick of it well before then.
Don't get me wrong, its a great place and so many great restaurants -- I love to visit 38 years later. However, when you are a Midshipman, without money (Annapolis isn't cheap) or transportation, it gets old, particularly during the Dark Ages. Of course, its all relative -- its a whole lot better than West Point of Colorado Springs.

It is definitely a good idea to arrive in Annapolis early in the week before I-Day. It gives you time to acclimate, explore, relax, and then begin to brace and prepare for what’s ahead. If your family is coming, go ahead and reserve a place to stay early (for I-Day and PPW). If your reporting alone, you will be permitted to stay in Bancroft before reporting on Thursday.

Last year, I was doing CVW as a junior in Feburary and met a senior there who'd already been offered appointment and accepted his offer. It's definitely possible. However, I agree with what other people have been saying in that I don't think it'll be super helpful if you already have your heart set on USNA.

Would a suit work best?

Instead of the recommendations from my esteemed colleagues above, come up to Baltimore and go to a snow ball stand. Try one with marshmallow cream. I recommend Skylight, Tutti Frutti, and Black Cherry flavors. :)

I will probably be flying into Baltimore, any places in particular?
