Hello all,
I am applying for USNA class of 2023 and am wondering how many letters of recommendation I should send the military academies for the Vice-Presidential nomination? I looked all over his website and could not find a specified number.

With anything having to do with application process, whether for appointment or nomination, do nothing more and nothing less than is asked. Simple as that.

For VP, I am pretty sure it’s none. It’s a short form you fill out I believe.

Navy Hoops is correct. Just fill out the online form.

The VP nomination application is necessary to be considered, but redundant. The academy will select nominees based on the entire admissions files - far more information than submitted in the VP nomination application.

And be sure to apply for the VP nom. DS's BGO got in on a VP nom. You never know.

****POSSIBLE THREADJACK****

My DS is in the foundation program and he must show proof that he asked for noms from both senators, his congressman, and the vice pres. Both Senators ask for a self-addressed postcard that will be returned to the candidate and our local congressman will email. However, my DS applied for the VP nom but doesn't know how to get confirmation. No email was sent. Anyone have experience with this?

They usually send an email with confirmatiOn. Confirmation emails seemed to be sporadic for some reason. USNA will know if he applied for it or not.

At the bottom of the page it says to send all letters of recommendation straight to the service academies.

WHich I take to mean that the Letters of Recommendation the academy normally requests is sufficient, not that you need additional recommendations.

ProudDad, I suggest you or your DS contact Capt Wallace (if he is still the BGO for foundation students). When DS was a foundation student we contacted Wallace to see what would be accepted as proof that he applied to all nomination sources. Things may have changed, but DS sent copies of his nomination applications and that was sufficient.

Following on THS’s comment: The candidate, not the parent, should contact Capt. Wallace.

The candidate must take responsibility for the application and — most definitely — any communications with USNA or BGO or MOC. Not a good look for mom or dad to make that contact.

I'm definitely with you on that one. I have talked to Capt. Wallace 1 time and to Kiski school 1 time. The rest of the time it has been my DS. However, I can't help but helicopter and provide my DS with "suggestions" :)
