Wait listed

Your DS can still log on !!

However, all Applicants/Wait-listed/Appointees for the Class of 2020 have a new Password that was changed late Friday afternoon, May 6th. That was the reason for the emails from USNA Admissions.

REPEAT : The Applicants/Wait-listed/Appointees of Class of 2020 now share the new password with the Applicants for the Class of 2021.

User Name is the Same: usnacandidate
Password:
(sent to you by email from Admissions; note that it is Case Sensitive )
Thank you! He was able to log in.

Agreed, got the email with new password then email it was a mistake then another new email with the same new password. Checked, it works (old does not).

I'm still waiting to hear back as well, wishing they'd say anything but otherwise I haven't heard anything going on either. :(
DS is still waiting as well. Started summer session 1 in the meantime. Good luck to all still waiting!

Hey everyone, I'm wait listed as well but I received an email yesterday offering an "engagement" to discuss my '20 app with a representative. Also, this was a representative I had not spoken to before (surprising since I've called admissions soooo much over this past cycle). This admissions rep was very polite and even responded after business hours! Anyway, if someone has experience or more info regarding what the engagement is all about, I'd appreciate it!

I have no clue what it means. Let us know what it is and how it goes. Bottom line, just be yourself, professional and give well articulated answers. Good luck!

My DS is wait listed too. We're in Atlanta and he got a similar (maybe the same) email from our admissions officer. Apparently, LT Dobbs has replaced LT Rivera (my DS' portal changed too). I'm pretty sure he was asking 'do you want to know how to improve your 2020 application for 2021.' LT Dobbs' email requested meeting preferences during the period of June 9 through June 13. Those dates seem much too late to make any difference for the Class of 2020. I hope I'm wrong.

DS received official TWE this morning. He is disappointed for sure, but moving forward with plan B (NROTC at BU). Already planning for reapplying next year. It feels daunting to me, given the 14 month cycle we've already been through. But I guess I'm not the one doing all the work, so should try to be the supportive parent on this one!

DS also received the official TWEmail this morning. Wow, is all I can say. There must be some incredibly talented individuals out there. He has extremely high marks across all aspects of a "whole person candidate." He is unsure of reapplication because he cannot understand where he failed at this point. He turned down an NROTC scholarship in order to play football (no program at the school). He has indicated he will reassess in the fall. Personally, I am miffed at the process. Having served under the command of both good and bad officers, I believe he had everything it takes to be an effective leader. I have seen it during wilderness journey's, on hunting trips, as team captain of HS teams, and when helping others in the classroom. I have had a few tremendous leaders in my life and know the traits that I followed and tried to emulate. I see these traits in him. I will continue to provide support to him and trust his path will lead him to where he should be. To the class of 2020, good luck (remember to make your own luck by always working smart and hard). To all those on this forum, I hope to reconnect in the fall. Until that time, fair winds and following seas.

DS wait is over as well. It has been a long ride and it's time to get off this roller coaster. Portal changed to "turned down by USNA" today. Like all the other candidates his stats and leadership are outstanding. He has avery high GPA in a tier 1 major, elected to leadership within his NROTC unit and excellent act scores. I really don't have a clue as to what more he could have done to impress the admissions board. I wish all those who made it in the best, I hope you cherish it. So many would love to be in your shoes.

While it is no doubt small consolation, for many (if not all) of the folks who were WLed, there was probably nothing more you could have done. At some point, it is simply a numbers game. The biggest factor is that entering classes today are nearly comprised of ~200 fewer students than when I attended and easily 100-150 fewer than a decade ago, due to significantly lower attrition. Thus, some people who were appointed -- and graduated -- in my day wouldn't get that same chance today.

There are simply too many superb candidates for the available slots. It's the same problem encountered by those applying to Stanford and Yale and other top schools. Admissions officers have to choose and at this level, the decisions aren't easy. Every parent of a kid appointed/admitted believes his/her kid absolutely deserved it, just as parents of those not admitted believe their kid was equally, if not more, qualified than those admitted. It's a no-win scenario.

While this can be a discouraging time, these terrific young men and women will almost certainly go on to greatness in whatever path they decide to pursue.

Oldest son got the final FOS (TWE e-mail for all you non-Navy types) today off the USNA Wait List. Hard to believe, he made it all the way to one week prior to I-Day before they told him to go away....tough way to get the final boot...

Will always have complete and utter disappointment with my Alma Mater... that being said...I now have two tickets for the Navy/ND game in Jacksonville next fall to sell. Send me a PM if you are interested....
