We read this and our hearts sank as my DS is a 17 year old average kid with dreams of serving as a coast guard for years & to see that even you all have been waitlisted even after being at MMI, makes us wonder what are they really looking for? The odds are so against us that every day without news is draining us mentally. Good luck to all you guys
I've read a couple of your posts now. While I understand your and your son's anxiety over waiting, take each moment breath by breath. At the end of the day, there are, and will continue to be, applicants who are not accepted. There will be swabs who will not make it through swab summer, cadets who don't make it through 4/c year, and sometimes there are cadets who are disenrolled the week before graduation for one reason or another. Adversity is part of this process.
Believe me, I understand how badly your DS wants this. If he wants this that badly, and this week's outcome is not what you hoped for, encourage him to apply again. I'm an interesting case study. I was accepted first go around, medically separated at the end of swab summer, and had to reapply for the following year and begin my journey again. Even along that journey, and my current CG career, I've run up against barriers, challenges, and hurdles. Everyone has a path to their goal. If he continues to pursue it, he may be able to achieve his current goal. If he doesn't, then there are other incredible opportunities out there waiting for him.
On a personal note, I noticed from other posts that you appear to be a faithful person that prescribes to a religious belief of some kind. If that is true, then it should encourage you that he will be set on the path he is supposed to be on. That path is not always the one we want it to be.
I wish your DS the best of luck. No matter what happens, he is not average - he is uniquely his own person.
