Waiver Process

I received an LOA and Congressional Nomination, and I'm really excited about the chance to be part of the USMMA. It is my absolute first choice. However, I was medically disqualified for a nosebleed that I had treated a year ago. I applied for a waiver, but I was recently informed that the waiver process may take until May.

Of course, I am willing to wait for this. But the problem that I have is that I may need to respond to colleges in my Plan B and C before that time. These schools offered scholarship packages, and I need to respond in the next month. Is there anything that I can do to expedite the waiver process? Am I able to contact the waiver office to do so? Will this help and who should I contact? Thank you.

No, there is nothing you can do to expedite the waiver process. Everyone needing a waiver is in the same boat. Make sure to respond quickly to any requests for additional information, records, or examinations. Put a deposit down on your plan B school when that deadline comes up. I hope you get an answer before May. My DD was told the same thing as you and her waiver came through on March 1st. I know the waiting is tough, but it is worth it.

Advice from others here on these forums......If you do not receive a waiver by the time your Plan B need a response you either gamble on the waiver (The SA's all do their own and a simple nosebleed would seem likely unless there is a prolonged history of them), or if you have a full ride to your Plan B, take the sure thing. I have read people doing both, sometimes it works out and the waiver come thru, other times they go for it and the waiver does not get granted prior to induction in which case you end up either working for a year or attending a college that is not your first choice.

Everyone has to make their own decisions, talk to you parents and your Admissions Officer at USMMA and make an informed decision.

You can apply for a waiver? I thought it was something that only the waiver authorities could do.

Have you heard anything yet? My son is in the same situation. I wonder how often the waiver board at KP meets.

I just learned last week that my waiver came through and I was given an appointment. It took a long time and then it just appeared. Very long and frustrating process, but it worked out in the end. Good luck.

Congratulations to you @PA Firefighter! Please add your appointment to the USMMA 2023 Appointment thread. :welcome1:

Oh, I'm so happy to hear this! Congrats!

I’m waiting to hear back, I applied for a waiver for “medically induced asthma” even though really I had bronchitis 3 years ago and used a temporary inhaler. I showed DoDMERB letters from my track and cross country coach, showing that I was varsity team captain and don’t have difficulty breathing after running. I took a bronchodilator test and did really good on it. This was 2 weeks ago
