Wow I have not been on this forum for a long time!

I have been the busiest person in the world (hyperbole guys... sheesh)! Some things have been going on in my personal life and because of that, my gpa for the end of my sophomore year is not where it should be for a competitive profile (3.45 unweighted) but I just have to keep in mind that I do take an all honors course load (or so my transcript says). I was declaiming a speech today in my english class and something really spoke to me. Paraphrasing from Oprah Winfrey at the 2013 Harvard commencement, you have to build a resume that doesn't tell a story about what you want to be, but who you want to be. As long as I continue to be passionate about different aspects of my life, things will happen for a reason.

So here is what we are looking at for my profile:
    3.45 gpa (unweighted)
Lettered in Lacrosse (YAY this just happened the other day)
    Investment Club Member
President of the GSA- This is an interesting story. My brother is a part of the LGTB+ community and I wanted him to join a community that would welcome him but he wasn't comfortable joining on his own. Apparently they thought that I was a decent leader and influence so here I am! I am not sure if I will include this on my application when I apply so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
    Active Actor in our Theater
Yellow (Almost Orange Belt!!) in Kenpo Karate
Student Leader (Program in my school where I help out around the libraries and in our offices)
    100+ community services hours
I have been babysitting in my free time for 2 families now! Very fun stuff!
    NLE Cum Laude Award
    Approbation Award
PERFECT ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR- Ok this is not really an award and it will not count towards anything but I was proud of this so I wanted to put it!
Student Council member (running for office right now so I am not sure if I will get a position)
My PSAT Score was a 1300 so not the best but I believe that with studying it will definitely go up in my junior year (Then SATs/ACTs will be great)

So that is who I am! I am really passionate about Film and I have been working on some short films and a PSA for a contest. I also really love history. I took AP World History this year and I am doing a model UN in my class discussing the current situation in North Korea. Oh and science. I am obsessed with science.

Thank you for reading this! I just felt that in order to understand my future posts, you should get to know me first!

    Thank you!
Well I started this account with the mindset that I was going to apply to USNA. That mindset has changed a bit in the past year but I still have a similar goal. Rather than just applying to USNA I am looking at USNA AND USAFA but also other schools as backups. That was something that I never considered before and I think that especially because I do not have the most competitive profile it is very important to have backups. I have learned a little bit more about the school and process which has been helpful but I am no expert and I still have a lot to learn. The only person in my family with any military experience is my grandmother and she was a nurse in the Navy a VERY long time ago so, that is something that I am also trying to learn more about. I hope that answers the question!

Let me also recommend applying to the respective ROTC programs, in your case NROTC and AFROTC. Perhaps you were including that in you applications to backup schools. Good luck! Hope your dreams come true.

Grades..grades...grades... All the activitities in the world aren't going to help if Admissions doesn't think that you have the ability to succeed academically. You still have time to improve your GPA and Class Standing, and a strong finish makes a good story line for personal statements. Also, SAT/ACT's will be critical --

Varsity letter in Lacrosse is good, but Team Captain your senior year would be great. Participation in activities is nice as a sophomore, but the key is demonstrated leadership. Not sure how leadership of GSA will be perceived in todays environment, but that alone is not enough.

I don't want to discourage you. This is a good time to be looking ahead and developing your resume for who you want to be. Next year will be critical in reaching that goal. Good luck.

    Thank you for the response!

That has been a little bit tricky for me the past year- realizing that I am not competitive academically. Even with my weaker grades, I think that I will try to apply and possibly in college if I'm not satisfied with the program that I am in. My school is in the top 50 schools in the country and it's number one in my state so I hope that its competitive nature is something that admissions considers. Even with that, grades are definitely a problem. I have started a few outside classes (physics and economics) so I can ready myself for whatever I do in the future because my schedule doesn't fit them in for my junior and senior years because of my AP classes.

    And regarding leadership:
Most likely not including GSA. The student leadership program at my school is somewhat competitive so that is helpful (in my opinion). I will most likely be the captain my senior year for lacrosse and for karate I am applying to a junior instructor position for younger students. I will work on stepping up to the plate in all of my activities and I will work on showing people that I have leadership skills.

I really appreciate your response and while I understand that my chances are slim, I think that even preparation for going to such a school is helpful for any field in the future. And also, your response has not discouraged me at all. I posted on the forum so that I could get opinions from other people with more experience so it has been very helpful. Thank you!

Thanks for the advice! I have been working on my pull-up and my running is decent. The only thing that I am a little worried about is the basketball throw. I just need to go through the motions of it. Then sit-ups and push-ups should also be fine although I could do a little bit better on push-ups. I just had a fitness test in my gym class and I got around 40 good push-ups in a minute so I believe that if I just keep working out consistently I will get there!
