I'm applying to West Point, and the principal of my High School will write the recommendation letter for me (along whit some of my teachers), do you think the admission team will consider it as a good thing?

Maybe not. Most of what I've researched about LoRs leads me to believe that a letter that does not add to a candidate's application or is not written by someone that intimately knows the candidate could decrease a candidate's chances of admission.

The SOEs (School Official Evaluations) should be the only things you need from your teachers.

I would! If you know your principal closely then it would be awesome! I knew my principal closely and he was able to write me one.

I think it helps the admissions team get more of an overall feeling as to who you are as a candidate. I don’t believe it hurts or decreases your chances at all.

Good luck to you!

There is an upload document section on your candidate portal and I uploaded one of my Congressional nomination letter of recommendations to my portal through it because it was written by my school principle. My FFR encouraged me to do so when I brought it up like you just have.

When my son and I visited WP last year before COVID, we were told that letters of recommendation are only read if you are tied with another candidate for an appointment. I’m not sure if that has change since our visit, but my son received an appointment without any additional letters of recommendation.

It's all up to what your principal says about you. You do not necessarily need extra LoR, although they do help. What does this LoR add/say about you? This is all the more important to your appointment chances.

Please remember that this is not a process like civilian schools. The admissions process is defined and USMA does not ask for LOR for individuals. They will require an evaluation completed by certain teachers: Math, English, Science and PE. A letter from the principal will be almost meaningless in the process. Now, most MOCs require LORs from applicants and the Principal would be a great person to have a recommendation from for that application.
