Hello all,

I am new to this forum, but I joined because I am interested in learning more about the academy and how to higher my chances of being accepted.

I appreciate all feedback and please be brutally honest.

Also, please let me know what I shouldn't include in my application that is on here (if anything).

If you have any advice for what to do to help my chances of getting in, please let me know.

I will state my academic information and some parts of my resume below:

3.6 GPA Weighted / Not sure of unweighted at this time
(I have taken the classes below)
AP Courses: AP Human Geography (G: B+) , AP Macroeconomics (G: B), AP Microeconomics (G: B), AP Environmental Science (G: B+)

AP Test Scores: 4 AP Human Geo, 5 Macro, 4 Micro, 4 Enviro Science

STEM Courses: Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus (Grade: B), Chemistry (Grade: B), Physics (G: B+), Programming (A)|| Taking next year: AP AB Calculus, STEM Engineering, Probability and Statistics, AP Physics 2

Sports/Sporting Events: JV Rugby 1 year, Varsity Rugby 2 years, Freshman Football and JV Football 1 year, JV Track and Field 1 year, VA Rugby State Championship (Lost)

Extracurricular Activities:
  • Confirmed in the Presbyterian Church
  • President of the Turning Point USA Chapter at my school
  • Black Belt, Taekwondo (1st Poom) , Certified through Kukkiwon
  • Intern to the Technology Specialist at Langley High School
  • Farmhand at a local farm
  • Service Clerk at a local grocery store
  • Lifeguard for 2 years
  • Regular Volunteer at Lost Dog & Cat Volunteer
  • Habitat for Humanity Service Trip with my church one week, 2016
  • National Honor Society member
  • Younglife member for 3 years, and attended a trip to Saranac for Younglife
  • Student Government Representative sophomore year
  • Little Brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America since I was 10 (I have had a single mom for 16 years)
  • Intern to N2SHAPE for 4 years (Fitness Company)
That is pretty much anything, feel free to ask any questions.
Thank you so much y'all!

Oh also, what are the minimums for the CFA? I am physically fit, but not SEAL fit, so I would love some clarification on that. I was not able to find the passing scores for the 6 tests.

Forgot to include my SAT scores. I received a 1350 composite; I got a 710 on the Reading and Writing and 640 on the Math.

One more addition: My school does not provide school ranks and is a highly competitive school, if that helps. 3rd ranked in Virginia.

Did you hold any leadership positions (captain of a team, president of a club)? Lots of extracurricular activities are good, but demonstrated leadership is better.

Yeah, I was president of a conservative club and held school office. Thanks for the feedback.

You are a competitive candidate on paper, but anyone responding here is only guessing. The weakness in your posted information appears to me to be your GPA. Most applicants are taking classes as challenging as yours (or even more challenging) and earning more A's than B's. Do everything you can to get mostly (or all) A's your 7th semester. I do not want to discourage you, but your grades are what stood out to me. I would also suggest taking the SAT onceomore to try to get your math scores a bit higher. Many unknown factors will enter into your chances of winning an appointment, such as the toughness of your high school (which seems pretty high) and the competitiveness of your congressional district. Regarding the CFA, no minimum scores are officially available, so try to exceed the averages in every event and you will be fine. I would recommend taking the CFA during the summer to avoid risk of injury and to give yourself time to improve if you need it. Good luck!

Rugby player? Got my vote. . . . .not that it is worth much, though. . .

Seems like you get a B or B+ in all of your classes. I think you should spend less time interning at the gym and volunteering for lost dogs & cats and more time studying. Half the things you listed on your extracurriculars add zero value to your application. The thing about being confirmed in your church makes someone wonder if you're even serious. What would add value is if you made some A's in Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, etc. . .Also, your Math portion of your SAT is pretty low for KP. Having a good score on the Reading/Writing won't do anything for you. Admissions considers the math score heavily, and I only took 2 Lit classes in 4 years and 1 Lit elective. Everybody takes those as a joke anyways.

You look like you are in very good shape for admission, however, the hard part is getting your Senate/Congress appointment. Consider applying for a 4 year ROTC scholarship as well. Our son's class had mids who's SAT scores were lower than yours and are quite successful at USMMA.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure what extracurriculars held actual value. I cut down on my list after talking to some people who have dealt with applications in the past.

GPA can be mitigated with a stronger SAT or ACT score. I had a 3.4 unweighted GPA with a 1530 superscored SAT (they do superscore at USMMA).

Raise your SAT math score for sure. I'm from Virginia as well and it's a very competitive state. I'm currently at Marion Military Institute and hoping to get an appointment for Class of 2024.
