i have a NROTC scholarship but was wait listed at my #1 school and was told I won't hear anything until after May1. If I accept and transfer my scholarship to my next choice but then get offered a spot at my #1 school later, is there a way to move my scholarship back? Is there a better way to handle this situation?

Have you tried calling the college to tell them you have an NROTC scholarship? Have you tried contacting the unit to see if they can assist in any way?

I've reached out by email but haven't been able to connect by phone. I talked to them after I got the scholarship so they know I'm out there but not since I was wait listed. Calling tomorrow :) Thanks.

Accept your scholarship if you haven't already. Sit tight and wait on #1 school. Contact #2 school and tell them you're coming (I assume you've been accepted) if #1 doesn't work out. Hopefully you come off the wait list and go to #1. If not, send an email to pnsc_nrotc.placement@navy.mil with a copy of your admissions acceptance letter to #2.

In the meantime, does #1 school have an appeals process? Is winning the 4-year National NROTC scholarship 'new information' since you submitted your application to that school? Something to consider.

This is exactly what we are doing with my daughter, who is in the same situation. Good luck!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the deadline to submit school placement change requests before NSI (though the state of NSI is up to debate due to COVID) April 15th?
Because of the aforementioned deadline, when I was waitlisted at my first choice NROTC school, I cut my losses and moved it to my 2nd choice.

NSI was cancelled this summer due to COVID-19 policies. Many posts on this forum received confirmation.

If you come off the waitlist at your #1, then simply submit another placement change request (w/admittance letter). If it doesn't happen, you are already set.

Again, I may be mistaken/misinformed, but as far as I can tell, on the NROTC website, it hasn't given an official announcement regarding NSI.

My DS received official word through his unit that NSI is canceled for this summer a few days ago. That impacted a number of programmers in his unit who did not attend NSI last year, but would have attended this year along with National scholarship winners from HS. The website may not say it, but just want to share it has indeed been communicated through some official channels - count on it, unfortunately. Hope that helps. Midshipmen are elsewhere holding out hope for Cortramid, but that too is being evaluated.

Not all have been notified officially. Including DS. He did receive ‘unofficial’ info, from his unit, in an unrelated email that it was cancelled. And that the program would be contacting people.

Maybe some units are notifying their people, and some are waiting for the people at Great Lakes to do the notification?

So officially it hasn't Been posted or announced but unofficially (through his unit) he was advised it wasn't taking place this summer.

To OP’s question, paperwork said that transfers after NSI would be again considered. We were just looking at DS’s award letter last night. I would advise as others have, to accept at #2 school, and request a transfer if #1 comes through.

Can I ask what you are going to do? Agree with the posts above that you have to submit a scholarship change letter by April 15... Are you submitting to change her scholarship to her #2 school but still waiting on #1? have you confirmed that you can still change it back if you get in to #1 subsequently? thanks for help if you know anything!! and good luck to her!

Thanks for this. Are you saying that we shouldn't fill out the form that is due 4/15 to move her scholarship to #2 yet? Leave it at #1 for now and we can still move it later? I thought we had to move it by 4/15 (the deadline to move scholarship) - I didn't realize you can still move it later. Can i send an email asking this question to the email you listed above or is this just for changes?

this is what we thought as well... trying to figure out if there is a way to secure second spot but not lose the chance at #1 spot.

Do you have your paperwork? Read it. The instructions are there. It also Says “you must gain admission to and enroll to your assigned school where your scholarship has been placed for the Fall 2020 term”. Requirement #4 of your offer. It’s bolded and underlined.

I suggest you read YOUR offer letter and follow the instructions. Everything you need to know from YOUR offer is laid out quite plainly. Even emails if you need assistance.

I would not rely on other people here to give you advice. Follow instructions to a T. Read your offer.

Keep in mind, you have a scholarship OFFER. It’s not ACTIVATED until you meet ALL of the requirements. Including item #4 listed above.

Yes, you can move it later - even after April 15th. That deadline was set so that NSTC is not trying to manage of bunch of placement change requests at the same time they are gearing up for NSI (which is cancelled).

And yes, feel free to email that same address with your question. It will be answered.

That may be. My own guess (pure speculation) is units are trying to figure out how they will handle their own indoc program. I assume they'l notify folks in one fell swoop covering the cancellation and the new approach for this year.

No word yet from The Citadel - Just an FYI.
