What to expect as usna summer seminar?

I’ve seen a bunch of posts about what to expect but most are kinda from years ago so I wanted to make a new more current one for anyone who has any questions, including myself!!

I’m going there to experience what it is like to be a part of usna and just hoping to have a good time but one major concern i have is my eyesight. I wear night contacts which requires me to wear them and sleep for a decent period of time. I would say about 4-5 hours. Then it takes about 5 minutes for me to take them out and clean them because they are hard contacts and need to be cleaned for the next use. In some discussions people were like they only got two hours of sleep and people would barge in early to wake everyone up. Would this be a hinderance to attending summer seminar? I would enjoy summer seminar with clear vision better than being blind 😂.

Also what happens at summer seminar? Anything I should know or any tips that could be helpful? Anything helps thanks!

I went to summer seminar in 2022 and I also wear contacts. You do wake up early, but as long as you go to sleep when you are supposed to you'll get enough sleep. I slept through the night up until I could hear the detailers scuffling around in the hall before they woke us up in the mornings. I popped my contacts in really fast in the morning, so I'm sure if you clean them at night you'll be perfectly fine.

You could also bring glasses just in case.

If you move quickly when you wake up you should have enough time to clean your contacts. As far as tips, don’t bring long socks, bring ankle socks if you can.

Heres a link to a daily schedule, scroll all the way down.

Glasses would def be helpful but the way my night contacts work prevent me from wearing anything else unfortunately. What time would you say about that they started to wake you up? Im planning on just setting an alarm and waking up earlier to take off my contacts.

Talk to your detailer about this. They are your go to for questions.

Have fun and enjoy your experience. Both my boys LOVED NASS!! Great stories upon their return.

And take a garbage bag to toss your muddy wet stuff into for the trip home.

just set an alarm for 20 minutes before the time they tell you you need to be awake by. Didn’t have problems getting ready before the midshipmen were banging on doors

I went last year and the reason most kids weren't getting enough sleep was because they were excited to be there and talked through the night XD. The only thing I can think of to stop you from getting ready on time is the bathroom line (shared by the entire floor) if you get up early I would stop there before getting ready in your room.

you will definitely have adequate time to sleep at NASS as long as you are in bed before 12 am which I don't think is too hard of a task

I have night contacts too! I wore them all through out summer seminar. There was no barging in and getting us out of bed last year. In fact, the girls in my dorm set a very early alarm...so we had a LOT of time to get ready before our squad leaders picked us up. Don't worry about it :))

Summer Seminar is 80% classes and briefs + morning workouts. It's fun to explore around the grounds and hang out with a squad. The best was the simulated "i-day" part (won't spoil too much on that). Go in excited and with an open mind and everything will go swell!

Thanks!! Night contacts are both the best and worst things because you can’t live without them loll. How did you do on the cfa at summer seminar?

My room and I set early alarms and it worked out perfectly, def recommend.

Haha yeah I get that.

I did very well, despite being on maybe 3 hours of sleep because I couldn't sleep that night... It was the adrenaline rush. I ended up submitting the score I got. For us, the whole event was indoors, and the 1 mile run was run on the indoor track where we needed to do 8 laps. The Firsties ran the CFA and our squad leaders went around collecting our scores as we moved from event to event.

Taking the cfa at usna is like getting a boost of testosterone. I heard soemthing about indoc night. Was that bad?

The pseudo Indoc was ridiculously easy...
And you'll be fine you get far more than two hours of sleep nightly...don't worry
