At West Point, we got issued our stuff...learned how to march, salute, etc...got our uniforms on...marched out where our parents watched and then got marched back in the barracks to start beast.

Now, at WP...they dismiss cadets to see their parents one more time..."the corps has..."

Anyway, wondering what the day looks like at USMMA. Thanks.

The most fun you'll never want to have again?

For the Class of 2024 it was literally a drive by drop off due to COVID. No parents allowed thru the gate so unfortunately, I probably can't answer your question very well. We did not get to meet and mingle with the other parents, we didn't get to walk around campus or visit the Navy Exchange store, we don't really have any photos of the day as it all happened so quickly. I wish we could do it all over again the normal way, although I'm sure my DS might think differently. I just really hope the Class of 2025 and every year going forward is different and maybe back to somewhat normal. It makes me sad to think of the memories we will never have.

Yeah, it was kind of a bummer for us parents, but we still have a lot to look forward to hopefully!

Class of 24 was drop and go, no parents were allowed on campus. No decision has been made yet by the Academy administration regarding protocol for Class of 25 reporting day. The National Parents Association will be hosting ZOOM calls for the parents of 25 prior to reporting day too prepare for their sons/daughters entering KP. I strongly suggest that you participate in these calls. If you havent done so yet I also suggest you join the Class of 2025 parents fb page. Information from the NPA as well as the local chapters are posted on the fb pages. If you are intersted in seeing what occurs on I day then you can you tube usmma reporting day. There are several videos posted which show plebe activities at indoc.

Any clue when Administration may decide on protocol for class of 25? Of course, I'm coming from a non contiguous state (FL) and realize with July 4th being Sunday, testing sites are closed (it's already posted) in recognition of the holiday on Monday, July 5th. Makes it challenging to get a Covid test 3 days out before needing to fly out Thursday. Keeping all options open (flying into NJ; driving- that I really don't want to do lol, etc.) My mom joined the parents page and I think there's a FL call this coming week.

A decision regarding whether graduation will be open to families or virtual again this year is expected by the end of the month. Any decision regarding reporting day will come after that and be guided by not only the numbers in NY but the entire country seeing as how plebe candidates will be traveling from all fifty states and abroad. The NPA will communicate all info on the parents FB page and during zoom calls. My opinion, and my opinion only at this time is indoc will be drop and go again. Academy has been going to extraordinary lengths to protect the Mids and staff currently at KP.

Understood. Thank you for your prompt response and your opinion.

Yup- zoom call for Florida next week. The drive from Florida isn’t as crazy as you may think but covid put a dent in plans to stop at some cool places along the way and we basically drove direct and then after drop off left in a hurricane. 😂

Indoc day starts with hurry up and wait. Parents/family line up outside Ohara Hall waiting for the sign in. Once plebes enter O'hara hall paper work is completed and luggage/gear is separated. Plebes must run a gauntlet out of Ohara hall to meet up with their Indoc platoons. They are changed out of civilan clothes into PT gear. Parents are free to roam the campus and the alumni association hosts a large tent for lunch. The Superintendent hosts the parents in an audutorium and reviews what a plebes life will be like and tells the parents 'we got this'. Later, the plebes march to Barney Square and say their oath. They are given on last opportunity to wave goodbye to their parents and then are marched away. Parents are now done and expected to leave campus.

Can you share more about parents FB page and zoom calls? I'm following USSMA on FB but I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to? Thanks in advance..

Each class has a parents FB page specifically for that class, usually set up in the March or April time frame. Parents will be invited to join after their DS/DD has accepted his/her appointment. Parents can listen in and/or participate in zoom calls on an irregular basis, usually via the National Parents Association.

USMMA Class of 2025 Parents-KP Official, this is the official parents page for the class of "25.Once your son or daughter accepts their appointment you should join this page. This is for parents only, siblings and relatives are prohibited from the page. At some point in time a page will be set up for the class of 25 itself. Its administered by a Mid. The parents page is already set up and can be joined. Sometime in the next month or two the NPA executive board will begin ZOOM calls with the parents to begin providing important information to help both the parents and plebe candidates prepare for reporting day and life at KP. These calls are very informative and will be held on a regular basis in the months leading up to reporting day. The NPA will also designate ambassadors to the parents of '25 who will help moderate the page and are the go to people for academy related information. They are parents of current KP upperclassmen and serve either with the NPA or their local chapter.

My son has accepted his appointment so I will go join that page. Great, thank you for all of the information this is very helpful!

I wonder how they will handle those that have received the vaccine. Too far out to assume but I would hope they take that into account.
