When is it over?

Do applicants get a letter from USAFA if they don’t get an appointment? If so, do those come during the same time period as the good letters? When is the sending of appointments over for the class of 2024?

The sending of appointments is over when the class of 2024 enters BCT. They cannot add to the class after that date. Attention would then transition to the class of 2025.

The send both acceptance and declines at the same time - it is not on one date, but ongoing. At some point, you could expect any remaining candidate to receive a letter that indicates it isn't going to happen this year - just to set expectations and get you to focus on plan B. In my experience, that is not even the road. The final, final, final action to conclude the end of the admissions cycle is the start of BCT.

Few years ago, DD’s detailer at NASS told the story of how she never got a TWE from USNA. But life went on, so she made a deposit at Big State U and began preparations to attend. Then a week before I-Day, she got a call from USNA, offering her an appointment. She had 48 hours to accept. Goodbye Big State U, hello Plebe Summer.

Clearly the exception and not the rule. But it happens.

So she never got a letter saying “not this year”?

Apparently not. Which is the moral of the story. It ain't over until it's over. (Meanwhile, work on that Plan B. She had a good one in place.)

I received 5 "not this year letters" and yet before the start of BCT, I received 2 different SA appointments. In my opinion, it isn't over until the start of BCT as they race to fill the class off of the wait list. Examples of last minute call-ups are rare edge cases, but serve as proof that anything is possible. Be sure to have a back-up plan. Some will self-prep and apply in the following admissions cycle. The determined will press ahead - see 5-try guy who finally got in.

Then there is the current USCGA Director of Admissions - a 3-try guy:

My son is USAFA 2020. He received a TWE on April 4, 2016 and was all set to attend Villanova University on AROTC.
Then on May 12th he received a call from our Congressman that he was receiving an appointment. At least four of his close friends all have the same exact story, some receiving an appointment as late as the end of May!
So even a TWE doesn't mean it's the end of the road! Until the start of BCT there's always a chance!

A coworker of mine was all set to attend West Point. Three days prior to I-Day at USNA he got a call from USNA admissions. He accepted the appointment and called West Point to let them know he wasn't coming. When he arrived at USNA for I-Day, they didn't have any uniform name tags or any other items normally ready/pre-made for incoming plebes. He was just happy to have the opportunity. Yes, rare..but it happens.

Surely there were other plebes wearing multiple name tags as punishment for various infractions. So that should have balanced things out.

Man.... I just want my letter of declination already...

Keep your head up, there's still time for offers of appointment all the way up until the Class of 2024 enters Basic Training. I was in a pretty bad state of mind about it last week because I gave it all I had. Just know things will play out how they are supposed to and the goal is to become a proficeint officer for the worlds greatest Air Force. Try your best to be optimistic and resilient and always reach for the skies.
Best of luck to your application:cool:👍

What is the 2020 date for the first day of BCT at USAFA? What about I-Day? Same?
