I just recently decided that I wanted to apply to West Point and I know I am not prepared for the CFA. I will be doing mock tests probably every day other than the BB Throw which when I did I got 41ft. I know my mile is very slow like 9:30 and pushups I can push out 15. My shuttle run is a 10:58 and I have not tried the flex arm hang. If I practice everyday would I be able to achieve the average scores? I do not want to take the test unprepared which unfortunately I am right now.

I got a friend who was a SF officer before he went to medical school. He had lots of badges on his chest and tabs (Special Forces, Ranger, and Presidents Hundred) on his shoulder.

I asked him about the Presidents Hundred tab because it’s hard to get. It’s a sharpshooting badge. I specifically asked him what he did to earn the tab.

He said to me, “You’d be amazed at what you can accomplish with some practice.”

The only general advice I would give you is to not shoot for average. You need to shoot for above average. Pushups are very low and run is not good at all. Yes, if you practice everyday, your scores will increase.

Here’s what I told my daughter last year when she was applying. I told her the admission rate for West Point is 10% (or use whatever number you want). I told her that’s the average candidate. I told her it is within her ability to have a 40, 50, even 75% chance of admission IF she is well above average with her ACT, CFA, GPA, Class rank, Girls State, team captain, meaningful club membership, etc

If she is average for all the above, then expect a 10% chance for getting in.

I’ve simplified the admissions thing quite a bit but the point to my daughter was to shoot for well-above average and your chances of getting in will be well-above the average rate. She got a LOA to West Point in late August and she is thriving at her dream school. The LOA was a pleasant surprise. She wasn’t worried about it (getting a LOA) at all. She knew she had a fighting chance to get in because her stats were high- regardless of an LOA.

Good luck and think about shooting for well above the average scores.

The deadline is the deadline...what is it this year? It is usually the end of January or even as late as the end February.
You will want to confirm the deadline.
Today is 11 October. You have at least 4 1/2 months to train.
Don't train by taking the test. Train by working on the elements over time.
The only way to get good at the basketball throw is to watch the videos and practice.

Don't count yourself out this early in the game.

Also, you might consider joining the x-country or indoor track team--for the training.
Or working with a coach at your school or gym. Make a plan and follow through.
You can do this...You don't want to wait for the last day for your CFA but you can wait until the last two weeks.

DD in same position. Everything for all packages done except CFA. Can do every event in CFA except pull-up or hang.

@Dadx4, worth waiting until she can do at least one pull-up. Just one is worth more than hanging from now until kingdom come. And she will not want to show up on Day 1 unable to do at least a couple pull-ups. With pull-ups — and upper body strength, in general — comes respect.

I've been reminding her of the pull-up requirement for 6 months. She's been working hard. She's super thin and fit and beats the avg in all other CFA categories. However, some bodies are just not designed to do pull-ups. I believe it's the thing that will keep her out of contention.

There are videos on you-tube that help you train. You can use rubber bands to help you with form and invest ina home pull up bar. My DS had a really hard time with pull-ups, he joined a gym, used the rubber bands, studied the videos, and got a pull-up bar. Although he didn't get accepted at USMA, he is at USAFA and passed the fall CFA with 11 pull-ups. It is practice and it is hard, but so are the expectations of a SA.

@Dadx4 There are videos from the Marine Corps on teaching women to do pull ups.
The officer in them is then-Maj Misty Posey. LTC Posey can get any woman over the bar at least once.

You just have to do it every day until you get it.

Google the Armstrong pull up program. I used this to more than double my pull ups when I was in. This program allows you the freedom to start wherever. Its amazing.

CrossFit will help with pushups and pull-ups! My DD went from no pull-ups to 2 and from 15-27 pushups.
