Where should I be at this point in my application?

How far should I be in my application before my senior year starts? My school year begins Wednesday the 29th and I wanted to know approximately where I should be by then? Has anyone had blue and gold interviews or been contacted by DODMERB? If so should I be there by now?

Don't worry about what others are doing. You have until January 31 to complete your application ( NOTE: Each MOC has their own application for Nominations, and I would expect their deadlines to be much earlier ). There are a lot of threads on this Forum about how getting your application completed early is beneficial, but there is no hard "gouge" on how far you should be completed now.

Nobody at Admissions is watching the tracker to see how you progress -- you are either complete and ready for Board review, or you are not.

Each candidate's application process is different. My DS was told by the BGO to work on submitting early which he did. After reading other's comments I'm not sure if was really necessary. DS has completed CFA, interviewed with BGO, and had the DODMERB physical last week. He is scheduled for a CWV in October.

Another question along the same lines of application completion. DS was told by his BGO that he has gotten his application compete to the 89% mark and just needs BGO interview and DODMERB. However, BGO indicated DS should slow down because once it is complete, it will go to admission board for a decision and if he is still trying to raise his ACT/SAT scores with Sept test dates, the improved test scores may be too late for consideration. DS (and I) had thought he would have the opportunity to continue to improve his application through the January application deadline despite a rolling admissions process. Does anyone have insight on this?

We were told the same by the BGO to complete most of the process as soon as possible. The BGO hasn't turned in the application as of yet as my son is retaking the SAT/ACT this weekend. The first SAT scores were really good, but DS wanted to try and get them higher.

DS is done for USNA, just waiting for Dodmerb to show up. It says Qualified on the Dodmerb site but it hasn't been reflected on the portals yet. He's complete for USAFA with the exception of one extra LOR to be sent in and the evaluator interview. For USMA he needs two LORs to be completed. For USCGA he's still working on essays and will need to do the CFA/PFT.

Agree there is no "right" timeline. That said, I advise candidates to make significant progress during the fall for several reasons. First, you want to get to 50% so you start the DODMERB process in the event that you need some sort of remedial. Gives you more time (if needed) to sort out any medical issues. Second, you don't want to have to do your BGO interview at the end of the year (when everyone is busy/on vacation) or, worse, leave it for the last week in January. Ditto with the CFA. Third, it's possible that during MOC interviews, you're asked where you stand. Saying you have some of your application done looks better than saying you haven't started (goes to motivation).

The above said, it's more important to get it right than get it done quickly. So take the time you need but don't leave everything for the last month.

I agree that right would out rank fast but how much needs to be complete before you even have a chance of receiving a LOA?

Do not, do not, do not concern yourself with an LOA. Many prior threads on this topic — look them up — and it’s vital you understand that the goal is not an LOA but an offer of appointment. Contrary to popular opinion, they are not the same thing. An LOA is a conditional offer — underline “conditional” — and you may or may not be able to successfully address the condition. It is not a guarantee of anything. On top of which, LOAs are incredibly rare.

Bottom line is, submit the strongest application you can, as early as you can. Beware of doing the latter at the expense of the former.

My DS has is in the same boat and anxiously waiting for March/April. In the meantime, we look forward to a Navy home football game on the same CWV in October.

DS has an open application from NASS. He is now DoDmerb qualified to both Navy n AFA. AFA was the one requested it. He has Pres nom. Did not requested a BGO interview yet. Application is done but the essay. He still not sure if he have
Lots to offer as a Naval Officer. He may wait until the last day to submit or will withdraw after (if not sooner) a second nomination to West Point.
