Where the Mids are staying Friday night šŸšŒ šŸš

DS and two firstie besties headed out yesterday. Had plans last night and then headed out north again today. Tourists in Boston today, dinner with a bestieā€™s parents. To the hotel they booked on their own now. Ready to roll to show up for March on tomorrow.

... crazy game, about 7 times I walked away, away from a Shakespearean tragedy.

FYI for 2024 game at FEDEX Field, the IHG lodging app still not active for December reservations. There are several hotels within one mile from the field.

3 things stood out from me...

Time of possession, which did seem to get a little better with Lavatai as QB.
The two to zero turnovers.
The frustrating lack of game awareness (2 delays on punts as examples)

.
And both turnovers resulted in Armyā€™s only two tds..

Kid said they his bus got back at 0600 when they were originally supposed to be around 0200. Said it was a really long day.
Twenty hours on a bus in one day was definitely a lot. And dinner after the game was tuna sandwiches handed out before boarding the bus. Tough way to wash down a loss. Looking forward to Army-Navy in the DMV next year. 450 miles from is too many for a day trip before finals. Wish this class could have at least one year in Philly.

Unfortunately theyā€™ll commission a few months before it returns to Philly. They get the 4 years ā€œon the roadā€. PA is home for us, so weā€™re kind of biased to the tradition, too.

As for the accommodations, theyā€™re in the military. Donā€™t let some sailor crammed into a small tossing ā€œboatā€ hear a future officer complain about having to sleep on a cot. I canā€™t tell you how many times I slept on a cot in an open hanger. It looked just like this. Or slept in the ā€œSikorsky Hotelā€ then woke up to fly a mission. Fellow crew members at in my civilian life are amazed that I can almost sleep on command. Put on an eye mask, insert ear plugs, put my mind in that ā€œsleep spaceā€ and Iā€™m out. Peter Parker was bitten by a spider, I got my super power of sleeping on command from the military.

Stadiums. Phillie has it wired and is probably the most neutral site. Everyone knows where to stay, you can walk or take the train to the stadium. If you have to Uber the stadium isnā€™t in the middle of nowhere.
Heck, there werenā€™t even enough seats this year for Cadets and Midshipmen. Next year in DC even fewer seatsā€¦ not sure how that will work.

I will say... I was wishing the game this year had been in DC for travel/weather purposes, but Boston turned out great. The weather was perfectly fine. It was weird seeing it pitch black at 4:30pm though. ( I could never live up north) Parking was easy and free. Getting out sucked. No arguments there.

Not sure if they will have an "official" monetary effect of the game, but based on how many Army/Navy folks I saw in airport, hotels, all over town, etc, It had to be a winner for the area.

My kid ('26) did get the Philly experience last year.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next two games locally!

Yeah, Boston wasnā€™t bad. The train to/from the stadium was nice. Everyone seemed to be staying in the same genera location in Boston which I do like. Itā€™s one of the things I didnā€™t like about The Meadowlands. It didnā€™t have the Army/Navy ā€œvibeā€. Half the fun is running into people you know at the hotel or around the hotel. Seeing Plebes you sponsored now married and bringing their kids to their first Army/Navy. Recognizing old faces from way back. Boston had that and itā€™s something I liked about Phillie.

Pretty sure the AD had nothing to do with the mids accommodations, nor does he care if the non-football player mids are rested. Rest assured that the football team is staying in actual beds at a hotel!
My point was Chet made a big speach about how Army - Navy is the last college game not about money. He was heavily involved in going 8 hrs away. Then the Kraft family wallet opened.

Really not that impressive from the logistic perspective if they are launching at 2400 and essentially pulling what will be 24 hour day. The 7ish hour drive isn't a whole lot different than the normal 3-4 hour drive going to Philly from the logistical perspective...but the toll on the Midshipman is much greater. Army Navy is a long day even when we had a 0400 launch.

If you want to see impressive logistics...moving and housing 8000+ to Los Angeles and back over the course of a 5 days for the 1983 A-N game in Pasadena was truly epic !
Philly is just 2:10 ride away from USNA never 3 or 4 unless it is Summer and hit Bay Bridge shore traffic.

Upperclass could self transport after class Thursday, most Plebes went Friday AM on bus to Provedence and stayed in the Convention Center.
Remainder Left USNA at 12:20am on bus and arrived at stadium abt 9:45am

Not sure why they might even see the Cross Bronx. Shifting from the NJ Turnpike to Garden State Parkway to 287 and over the Tappan Zee then follow 287 to CT Turnpike or Wilber Cross avoids the hellish nature of the Cross Bronx and follow on portions of I95
My MID said that's exactly what they did, but took NJTP to 287 to Tappan Zee (Cuomo) to 95
