Will Top Gun 2 affect USNA admissions?

Bring it, @flieger83 :)

Tell us why you want cheap Chinese sunglasses...or are you talking about Bausch & Lomb from 40 years ago?
Damn...you're dating my amazing B&L RB's, large aviator lenses?!

Yes, I have several pairs of those with 14kt frames.

RB Aviators.jpgKinda like those above...

More recently...Maui's with double polarization (front/back) have been my flying shades.

But, MUCH more importantly; CaptMJ hit it on the head.

My AO sunglasses didn't have those cable ear hooks, either. You cannot wear those for hours without them digging into your ears.

I feel like we should all just shift to the “I” Bar at NAS North Island to hash this out, break out the dice, run a tab. The pilots in the crowd could move their arms more freely.

NASNI Bldg I was where they filmed some scenes from Top Gun. I was at VS-41 at the time; we all found reasons to try to make our running routes swing by there. And yes, DH and I did regularly go to KC BBQ, where many scenes were filmed. Popular naval aviation hangout.

Nothing like a pair of 1980s Ray-ban Outdoorsman II's with B&L Glass Photo-chromatic and coil temples. Put em on in the AM; take-em off and lay-em down on the bed-stand at night. DD co-opted a pristine old pair I had in a safe for service in the INDO-PAC AOR; I went looking on E-bay for replacements: $450 Used!!!!!

These days: I am swearing by Oliver-Peoples. "Fashionista",sure, but Japanese photo-chromatic glass lens's ........excellent!

Re Top Gun 2: I heard they had contract issues with some of the talent which required some major changes in the cast, along with reshooting of some scenes .

who did that!!?? hahahaha

still swear by my 80's Ray Ban Aviators, probably 80% of the air wing wore them

still have my flight school issued AO's sitting in the original case, 35 years only, maybe worn 5x

Does anyone think the release of Top Gun 2 may cause an increase in USNA applications, and maybe USAFA applications as well?
Notwithstanding the discussion on shades, there may be a significant uptick in male and female athletes applying to USNA and USAFA if volleyball scenes are included in TG 2. How is your serve?

Wow. we are exact opposites. Maybe it's a Navy/Marines thing?

I went to space camp in the 80’s just after Top Gun. We had a competition in our group to pick shuttle positions. I got second place. The guy who got first had just watched Top Gun and consequently picked Pilot because he wanted to land it in our mission. I took Commander.

Guess who lands the shuttle….

I was a payload specialist at Space Camp. Ugh.

Poor OP. Opened the Pandora’s chest and launched the aviation crowd into critical shade analyses and commentary.

You know everyone in past or current uniform here has had those moments where we said silently to ourselves, “And they pay me to do this.”

It was a target rich environment.
