If you do the math you can see why they may cancel 2 of the max's.
2 yrs ago they had 2200 cadets, and only 5 Max's. Last yr they went back to 6. The point is if you take 1500, divide by 4. You would have just a slightly larger class size than 12, but smaller than 11. Very doable.
The question becomes the delay also maybe tied to do they cancel Max 1 and 2 or Max 1 and 6, or Max 5. and 6. If they cancel any Max's at all.
Remember every base has GS's too. Although it is now done to 14 days, if they cancel certain ones, they can also address the days the GS's will be furloughed to make less of an impact.
There are a lot of moving parts that go on behind the scenes especially for this yr.
As far as inference about 500's graduating/commissioning on time. Again, this yr is not a typical yr. 500's prior to this yr. were not common. Next yr there could be a lot more 500's maybe up to 600 cadets, and they need to address this from an AFMPC perspective. AFMPC is counting on AFA and AFROTC pipeline to remain at the number they projected prior to sequestration.
LY's SFT selection was based on the 2200 they sent would commission in 14. They give out some 500s to keep that number JIC. Thus, TY's cadets becoming 500's needs to be addressed regarding AFMPC. They may have to take a unique approach only for 15.
If you go back several pages, agagles had stated AFA's 15 is already at 900 (which is low compared to previous yrs). This may also be an impact on AFROTC too, because if AF assumed they would make up the numbers with AFROTC and OCS, now cutting 600 more brings it back to what I keep saying, that is a problem for MPC. It is a heck of a lot to get through OCS, while hoping that they will have enough qualified applicants to even make up that number loss if they dis-enroll them.
Which brings it back to the 500's and how to handle it for this yr., but also next yr too because to get back on target they would need to up the amount to @2800.
Again what people aren't understanding is the amount of moving parts and how by saving money this yr., can cause financial issues next yr. and the yr after that. It has to be thought out on which way to go.
The fact that they have numbered these cadets from top to bottom isn't shocking because the board meets and assigns them a ranking position. They drew that 2100 or 2150 or 2200 number across the line a few weeks ago.
However, also remember they may be going back over the files right now to see what yr the cadet is graduating. If they are going to graduate Dec. 15, they may defer them for no other reason because they will be able to have 3 semesters after SFT, even if they were number 1 on the list.
Just speculation. I know nossing! My hope is sometime soon some of you will not get SFT, and if you can convert the emotions to facts, than you will understand that there were a lot more factors in the equation than just your score.
