AROTC Class of 2014 Branching

I have to admit, this is earlier then I thought it would be. Eight days late is not bad considering they have always at least a week late with any results.

Good luck to you all.

Son is waiting on line right now to go in and see the PMS. I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear back from him!

Interesting note, a DMG in our Btn got his 3rd choice (FA) and got passed over for AR and IN...
This was a competitive year...

whats a DMG? and what branch is FA. Thanks in advance for educating me.:thumb:

DMG=Top 20% of the OML
OML=Order of Merit List (lists all graduating seniors based on a formula)
FA is Field Artillery
AR is Armor
IN is Infantry

My son won't know until 5. I am so nervous for him! For those who know...did any of you ADSO? My sons first choice is signal. He is a math major and chose ADSO.

I signed an ADSO for my first choice of Armor and I received my first choice with the ADSO option. Huge weight lifted off my shoulders!! Good luck to your son! :thumb:

Not that odd that it happens that way. DMG is calculated from the top 20% of the National OML. If a cadet is toward the bottom of that top 20% they would end up at around the 30 to 35% mark on the AD OML, it makes it a little tougher to get IN or AR at that point.

From reading some of the current articles regarding branching they seem to be focusing on different things this year. A high OML due to a high GPA may not be enough as it has been in the past. Leadership seems to be something they are looking harder at. Could be that branching will become more of the "Whole Person Score" rather then just a simple number.

FA is not a bad branch either, there is a lot more then just artillery.

Good luck all.

....and congratulations mbitr.

My guess would be the cut was somewhere around 79-80 score the OML score shift. I got AD with my ~81 but a cadet with about a 79something got Guard. Also, PMS said 200 slots were cut this year.

Son is next to go in. The first 5 cadets that have come out of the meetings so far have gone their 2nd or 3rd choices.

Only 200 slots cut, not bad considering Army reductions and the rumors of 550.

Again, congrats.

If you all don't mind, could you share your position on the AD OML (Percentage or Number) just so others might get a clearer picture of how the branching is spread out this year.

It will be interesting to see how the Guaranteed AD with ADSO for the certain majors/branches effected the cutoff mark for AD. Probably won't see that data for a while.

Just heard from my son - he got his first choice: AD, MI branch-detail Armor. I am so thrilled for him - - - and he is pretty excited - and relieved - too!

Good luck to all!

At first, my daughter heard within her unit that the results were out but her cadre said they didn't have any answers yet. I checked on here and saw that people were finding out so I let her know. A half hour later, her unit was told they can come in at 1330.

Active Duty!

My son said that a few of his classmates did not get active duty like they had hoped for. His best friend who goes to another school also got reserves.

Sounds like a very competitive year.
