March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I wish that was the case. In the past (following the October board) DoDMERB packets were sent to, what were considered, "desirable candidates". However, becoming DoDMERB qualified is not the same as being offered an AROTC scholarship. I'm in that same boat-been physically qualified since December, but still without a scholarship offer.
The DoDMERB site will reflect your physical qualification for AROTC, but the actual scholarship status will show up here:
https://schlr4yr.usarmyrotc.com/scholarshipstatus/
There will be a change from "interview" statement to "check DoDMERB" statement if a scholarship is headed your way.
Hopefully scholarship offers will be announced from the March 8 board soon.
Good luck!
Yeah, I know, but it seems everyone on this forum goes nuts when they are medically qualified for a ROTC scholarship like it's some amazing confirmation of a scholarship. I know that the service academies pre-qualify Candidates. But I've read more than several times on this forum that ROTC does not medically qualify unless you do receive a scholarship.

Talked to ROO at one of DS' schools earlier today and she said the website they access for status has been down all day - she's hoping it's because it's being updated...

The 3 year is only different in the fact that it kicks in the 3rd year and you have to maintain a 2.0 overall, 3.0 in ROTC classes, and pass the PT test. The first year still counts to your OML standings

A 3 year AD Scholarship actually kicks in the start of your 2nd year, not the 3rd year.

I'm sure that was a typo, I just wanted to make sure nobody was confused.

Not the case this year.

Many applicants that were Qualified through Dodmerb prior to the Jan. board did not receive a scholarship and have rolled over to the March board.

In fact not much is the same this year, ClarksonArmy, a ROO, has been saying the same thing other PMS and ROO's have said. Don't count on a scholarship this year, the cutoff line was much higher and the budget money is low. If you do receive a scholarship be prepared for the possibility of a 3 year AD and only one choice of school.

Projections are showing the Army at this time plans to stay on track to commission close to the same number of officers over the next few years. The question becomes how many cadets will be on scholarship. Remember it was not too long ago when very very few scholarships were given. Things change, and can change quickly. Just like everything in the military, we need to learn to adapt.

Good Luck everyone.

The person I just had an email from said "the results for the march board are anticipated to be posted by the end of this month".

I think the delay in acceptances for the last board has thrown their plans out.

 thanks for pointing that out, ill change it right now

I hope they won't be released near the end of the month, as I think many colleges require you to decide if you are attending by May 1st.

Okay. The craziness is setting in.... the results will post when they post. We hear multiple "sources" saying different time frames - it happened on the January board too if you think back - so yes, it could be this week, it could be next week....or it could be July 4, 2011 if CC wants it to be. Have a back up plan(or 2 or 3) to cover your options if need be. We have Plans A,B,C-C is completely within DS's control - SMP Ohio Guard thru his #1 school. Ohio's guard isn't in budget issues(yet)and we have recently talked with the recruiters. He meets with them after graduation IF no other offers come.

PLAN to succeed.

My DD received a packet from Concorde today about setting up her physicals. Are they supposed to do this even though they don't know if they've received a scholarship yet? Or is this just meant to push things along quicker if they do get the scholarship.

Oh we definitely have Plan B. :thumb: It's to his #1 school, where he has been offered an academic scholarship giving him in-state tuition rates, plus a few thousand more each year...and he plans to join ROTC there with or without a scholarship. That said, we also have a DD starting grad school this fall and knowing the total financial situation would be nice. We believe in the old saying "Lack of proper planning promotes pi$$-poor performance"...

The way I understand it is that if they think the candidate is going to be competitive at the board, they go ahead and refer them to DoDMERB, so getting that package does not necessarily mean a scholarship is forthcoming. I suspect it does help push things along quicker if they are offered one, though. It's especially good to start that process in case a waiver is needed.

Your family sounds like my kinda people. We've got another one in college too so I feel your pain. We also just lost my DH's income, 10 days ago his employer called to tell him his position was elminated...yeah, no one could want these results NOW more than we do. DS also has some great merit scholarships(to his #1 and another)so we're gonna be okay.

My point in the previous quote wasn't directed at anyone personally...I only quoted items that pertained to the upcoming results to illustrate how quickly and varied the messages can be. I hope NO ONE takes it as a dig at their DD/DS or themselves. Having weathered January's board, I'm personally hoping for this week, but very prepared that CC could wait until the 4th of never to release those results, so everyone please bear with me if it sounded like I was being harsh toward anyone. Its been a long winter.

The person I had an email from deals with placing high school students at the various colleges for our region. I cut and pasted her exact words in my post above.

From my experience the information from ROOs and PMS's is VERY inconsistent. I actually think you would get better info at the drive thru window at your local McDonalds.

edit - The above does not apply to Clarkson or Marist, they are good guys.

Can I reapply for an ROTC scholarship as a freshman? I intend to enroll myself in the ROTC program at St. Bonaventure next year, even if I don't get the scholarship. I was just wondering if CC will accept re-applications of the scholarship...$$$ is tight :(

FloridaDad - sorry, I forgot to add the validity of information was not being questioned, just the amounts of confliciting information that we will all hear from now until doomsday or the results are released, which ever happens first. Again, my apologies for questioning your information.

JB55...You won't reapply for the scholarship, you will compete for campus based scholarships. There is no application. You need to enroll in the class and do everything that is asked of you. If scholarship money becomes available your Battalion will generate an Order of Merit list of all the scholarship worthy cadets, and you will compete with everyone else at that time. You Battalion may have a board, or they may just look at your stats. Good PT scores, good GPA, attendance, and the right major will all have an impact on how competitive you are.

Thank you, Sir. Unfortunately, Saint Bonaventure has been told by CC to not award any campus based scholarships as of last week. Hopefully, when the March awards are handed out, they will inform SBU of how much they have to offer as a campus based scholarship. Thanks, again.

Waiting with the rest of you

Just checking in to let you know we have not fallen off the face of the earth. My DS still in the fetal position after receiving his TWE from West Point. Looking forward to this weeks results and wishing my adopted family on this forum best wishes and best of luck for announcments to come.

also received a packet in the mail today requesting us to set up a DODMERB physical within the next 5 days.... names of local physicians included.

Like others above, wondering if this means a scholarship offer is soon to arrive... or not.
