Got the TWE yesturday. Same wording as above. However, I didn't get the whole 1,285 admitted. Doesn't the Academy normally offer 1,700 appointment and around 350-450 turn them down and they nab as many from the waiting list as they need to fill the class. Has everyone already turned them down and accepted their appointments?
Also, Big Red I am visiting VT tomorrow. I plan on going to speak to the Detachment Commander while I am there. I will pm my impressions when I get back. However, from what I have heard they run it a little different there than normal rotc detachment. Instead of it being a commitment you have a few nights a week and on an occassional saturday. It is like being at a service academy while at a public university. While at first glance this seems great, I am told it's not. Their drop out rate is a lot higher because of this difference. At the Academy you know that you are not alone. Everyone there is either going through or has been through what you are going through. So, you grow unshakable bonds with these men and women. If you are doubting why you are there they remind you and you remind them. No one get left behind. At VT you don't have to look very far to see people having fun, doing dumb stuff that you wish you could do, etc. So, it allows more time for the thoughts, why the heck am I doing this, to creep into your head and if having a bad couple of day, your motivations are not that strong, you are likely to drop out of the program. Your brothers will remind you why you are there and those not in rotc will remind you of the fun you are missing out on. I heard this from people who are/were in and some who have dropped out. We shall see!!
