Usna thin white envelope

thin envelope came today

Well friends my husband just called to say that the thin envelope was in the mail today. Unfortunately we all know what that means. He has received word regarding an NROTC scholarship and when we were talking just recently he said to me, "mom I know I want to be a Marine officer, and I will". To those of you waiting, please keep the faith and remember that no news is still good news. To those of you that received an appointment, congratulations and in the words of my son, "keep charging".

TWE are going out, no waiver. DoDMERB states Offer Withdrawn. NROTC no information. USMA and USAFA no information. Hoping for the best. Sibling wanted to see him @ Plebe summer. Guess it won't work out. Cousin is doing NROTC Marine Officer Training at Quantico this summer and Mid is doing same for one block this summer. Hope they meet each other. That should be a great "picture moment".:thumb:

That makes feel alot more at ease sir. I feel like I can rest a little easier knowing that I am not alone.

DODMERB

Am I missing something here? It is my understanding that you are either notified by your Congressman, or receive a BFE for an appointment?, in some cases your status may change on the website. The DOMERB relates to your medical status - doesn't it?

The BGIS is accessible to the Blue and Gold officer only - correct? What does the DOMERB have to do with an appointment? My son is 3Q and #1 selection by his Congresswoman, but we have not heard anything yet.

Should we be checking his application webiste? or just keep checking the phone and the mail?

mudvillemom,

I'm so sorry you got the twe. You sound like you have a great son!

Now, after reading this thread, I am scared to death to look in the mailbox. Initially, when I looked in the mailbox, my eyes were searching for any large envelope...now, I am petrified to look through the stack of white envelopes (bills)!

Good luck to you and your son!

If your son is in that scenario, i.e. 3Qe'd with a principal nom, I'm pretty sure he's in good shape for an appointment.

BGIS is only accessible to USNA BGO's, and academy admissions folks, yes. Check his application website for info. My experience as a parent and BGO has been that the call usually comes from the Senator/MOC first before we even see anything in BGIS. The Naval Academy does it as a courtesy to the MOC/Senator's office.

Heck, 30 years ago this year (insert old guy smiley here), I got calls from my MOC for West Point and my Senator for USNA. West Point came through in January but Navy wasn't in until April. I always tell everyone that West point was my "safety school".:shake:

mudvillemom sorry to hear you received the dreaded TWE. If correct, yours is the first "official" USNA TWE confirmed on this site. Your email provided a reality check for our family. The TWE's are real and too many extremely qualified and great kids receive TWE instead of an appointment.
Good luck to you and your son. I sure he will one day earn the U.S Marine Corp Officer title.

I'm hoping it's not a TBNT letter, but rather a wait list letter or something else - if you haven't opened it yet. We got a TWE for son #2 three years ago, and it was a wait list. After initially feeling like a second class citizen and pouting for a while, he accepted and really loves it. USNA loves reapplicants. Something to seriously consider.

TWE

Wow - we have been so focused on the Big Fat Envelope, that we did not even think to ask how they did rejections.

Is this summary correct?

You may learn of an appointment by the following:
1. Notification via phone from Congressman/woman.
2. Change of status on Admissions website to "Appointment Offered".
3. Big Fat Envelope with Appointement letter and other mysterious items which make it Big and Fat.

You learn of rejection via a TWE - Thin White Envelope only.

Perhaps I should ask my son to stop checking the mail every day.

sailormom, I think you might be able to find out acceptance or rejection on Dodmerb, but I just haven't seen anyone post that yet.

What would the opposite of "appointment offered" be? Not, "offer withdrawn" if it was never offered to begin with, right?

Whatever the wording is, I don't want to see it! We just want "in process" to change to "offer extended" and nothing else!!

Good luck!

I think that's a pretty good summary, but TWE does not necessarily mean rejection, either.

BFE or BME contains a blue padded folder, suitable for display on the mantle or a shelf. Also used at awards/scholarship ceremonies later in the Spring for presentation. Pretty much all Navy awards, medals, etc., come in the blue padded folder.

I second this!!! this obsessively inquiring mind wants to know the answer to that too!!

Can I trade a bunch of dusty old ones for a single new one for my D?

DoDMERB STATUS: USNA: OFFER WITHDRAW. WAIVER DENIED. The Kiss of death for this year. There always next year and the next and the next:thumb: Still witing for USMA and USAFA. Got one of the great big blue ones a couple of years ago and was hoping for anther one. Not this year but can try again.

Sailormom, my son's status on DODMERB changed prior to any other notification for appointment to "offer extended". Envelopes followed about a week to 10 days later. Our MOC contacted us to find out if he had recieved one. No contact from Senators after notification of nomination. This may not hold true for others, but he has two appointments and both appeared on DODMERB first.

DODMERB Status Stalking

My daughter didn't log onto the DODMERB site even once until the BFE arrived in the mail, then she looked to see what it said. It made it easier for her to focus on her daily life, SCHOOL, her sport, friends and family. I didn't log in either. I just watched this forum occasionally, got some good information and enjoyed my daughter. This approach made dinnertime a lot easier, if we are talking about what IS today, what we can control and not talking about what we can't control (The Admissions Board), everyone is happier.

I can't say this approach works for everyone, but I slept well not knowing and sleep fitfully now knowing that I am going to be sending my daughter off to a different life than I experienced, but it is what she wants. My daughter sleeps very well no matter what!!

Best of luck to all of you, but no matter where you wind up, there must be a reason! Make the best of your opportunities, no matter what they are.

tothetop14....great advice and I know you are correct. However, my fingers just won't delete DodMERB from "my favorites" tool bar. DoDMERB therapy required.

I don't mean to be "correct" or even give advice (except to say, 'make the best of opportunities presented'), I was just stating what worked for us.

I have garnered so much interesting information from this website, so THANK YOU to all who post information - like the stuff on the George Forman Grill and Laundry - HA HA HA!

Enjoy your kids! I know I am enjoying mine a lot right now.

:frown: I'm sorry AF6872. Fingers crossed for USMA and USAFA! :thumb:

Just got back from vacation. Harmi, my heart sank when I saw the title of this thread...I was relieved to read it was just a question!

I am so sorry to hear from those of you receiving sad news. We have had no news yet, though my son's candidate page was updated to show that his midterm grades were received. (High School Transcript receipt date changed to March 3, 2010)

Nothing new on Dod or in the mailbox.
