Usna thin white envelope

Wow - we have been so focused on the Big Fat Envelope, that we did not even think to ask how they did rejections.

Is this summary correct?

You may learn of an appointment by the following:
1. Notification via phone from Congressman/woman.
2. Change of status on Admissions website to "Appointment Offered".
3. Big Fat Envelope with Appointement letter and other mysterious items which make it Big and Fat.

You learn of rejection via a TWE - Thin White Envelope only.

Perhaps I should ask my son to stop checking the mail every day.

I don't think Navy admissions website (CIS) ever shows a status change (USAFA's does)--but the DoDmerb, as others have mentioned, will show "offer extended" instead of "In Process".

I was wrong

The TWE was an invitation to an admissions symposium for the Naval Academy to be held in Nor. Cal in a few weeks. Needless to say, there are a few "jokes" about me this morning at our house. In my defense the letter came directly from the Department of Admissions, was thin, and white. I am sorry to put any of you through unnecessary stress.

We got one of the TWE, the invite to the event in Alameda, as well. Several weeks ago it was a TWE with the letter advising he was scholastically qualified. They scare the heck out of you! Want to know if DODMERB site changes from "In Process" to something else if the rejection letter is sent. He is 3Q'd, recvd a "principal alternate" nomination, but haven't heard anything (waitlist, etc.). I guess no news is good news until the "right news" comes through.

certainly good news (not a TWE) outweighs the same mistake most of us would have made

What did I tell you? TWE is not necessarily the kiss of death...

Good luck!

You were right USNA84 but today you are going to have to take a number and wait until it is called to give me a hard time as you are behind my husband, candidate and candidates 15 year old brother. :shake:

They will Stop eventually...

As soon as they get hungry...I am sure they will be nice again!

DODmerb

It is my understanding that the DODmerb site is used for Medical Waivers and acknowledgement that you are medically qualified.

Perhaps those that had status changes on the DODmerb site had medical waivers?

Has anyone who did not require a medical waiver see a status change to "Offer Extended" on the DODmerb site?

DoDMerb has a line for "Admission Status" and "Admission Status Change Date". Those are for the actual academy admission not the medical stuff. My medical reads as "Qualified" as of October 2, 2009; however, my admission status is "In Process" as of "6-JUL-2009".

So Dodmerb does have the info regarding service academy admissions in addition to medical qualification.

Oh, Mudvillemom, my mom (Momofthemagik) wanted me to tell you she is breathing a sigh of relief for you!

Been there, done that...

Mudvillemom, I SOOOOO identify with your story. I was completely shocked about 3 weeks ago when I went to the mail and found a TWE. Ohhhh...the disappointment. Plus, the agony over how I would break this news to my son. At the same time, I was trying to put on my happy face and practicing my best "God must have a different plan" speech. I don't know what possessed me to hold the envelope up to the light...

It was a letter saying he was scholastically qualified, as another poster has shared. I can't tell you how relieved I was!!

This is quite a process. I know that all of us here are biting our nails and hoping for the best. It's out of our hands now.

mudvillemom: I am SO happy for you and your candidate that the TWE was not THE TWE!!! Have you begun breathing again?

Sailormom2014,

In response to your question, I did not require a medical waiver and my status changed on DoDMERB to "Offer Extended" from "In Process."

YES.

Although DODmerb is the site for the medical review board, the service academies keep them informed as to admission status of the applicants, so information there is not only related to their medical information. Son was medically qualified back in July, all other status changes on the site correlated with his actual Academy or ROTC acceptances.

ETA: Oops, guess sailormom's question was already answered-note to self, read entire thread before responding...

The “Admissions Status” comes directly from the admissions office of that particular program, DoDMERB only posts the information.

Yes, I should have stated, "The DodMerb website contains admission information from the programs."

Tread lightly....the time is coming, when I visited my admissions officer, (He/she) *discrete* pretty much told me that they are pretty much choosing which arm they want to keep they are techincally "booked", they have had 17k applicants this year. Incredible huh, and a mess of reapplicants. Thursday is blursday for me, my file is going to be reviewed that day. Good luck to all. :thumb:

sorry for not understanding, but what is meant by " that they are pretty much choosing which arm they want to keep they are techincally "booked",

I really didn't understand what you are trying to say.

17,000 applicants seems to be less than relevant now since MOC noms have been completed, files can'r be updated by candidates, etc.

Am I wrong?
