Who is still waiting?

My son received the wait list letter in todays mail - he was home for easter break.
best wishes to all still in the running, larrys mom

We were out of town for the weekend and had ourselves convinced that something (good or bad) would be in our mailbox when we got home. I have to say I was very, very nervous when son asked to be dropped at the mailbox rather than going up the driveway. I reminded him (again) that this year there were sooo many qualified candidates and not enough spots.

When he brought the mail into the house there was no BFE, but no TWE either! I think at this point, he really just wants to know where he's going. I just want to make a hotel reservation (in the right city) before all the hotels are booked!

While we were away, I did check these forums and I am sooo sorry to those who have received the TWE in the last several days. I know that your kids must be amazing and how disappointing this must be. For some of these kids, it's the first time that they haven't gotten what they've worked hard for...I know for mine, if he gets the TWE, that's how it will be. Good luck with your back up plans, we have ours in place also!

to all who receive the TWE in the next few weeks, we were in your shoes last year, and i know your pain. But, for those who try again there is hope. son applied again as a freshman on a NROTC scholarship and this time he got a blue folder. Consider going to college, striving hard and reapplying. son is sure glad he did.

Will you have to repay the scholarship now that he is dropping and going to USNA?

Mine earned an NROTC/Marine option scholarship but are still waiting to hear from USNA. If he gets the TWE, I assume he will have to repay the scholarship if he continues to apply at USNA. Is that accurate?

I'm tripled qualified and have a nomination from my congressman in VA. Unfortunately, there was no mail from the USNA today. Surprisingly, I don't feel that stressed about the mail; instead, I actually feel excited to see where my future begins. If I have to, I will simply re-apply to the USNA while attending VMI... Good luck to everyone!

Just got the bad news today. Trying again next year after a year of Marine Corps NROTC.

^ and each ROTC unit gets to award a nom to USNA each year (must be applied for) thus increasing the # of noms your child will be eligible for

Appointment

No mail from USNA either. I had to turn in records for DODMERB from a surgery I had and two weeks ago they said I qualified medically. I called admissions today and they said no decision has been made. Does anyone think my application was delayed even though they mailed a letter about a month ago stating I was scholastically qualified or were just waiting to see if I was qualified medically to give me an appointment?? I think I should have heard something by now.... Thanks for all the help!!

Trust me, there are many here in the same spot. Waiting is VERY, VERY hard, but you are not alone. DS got his letter about scholastic qualification about the same time you did. Patience. I know that doesn't REALLY help, but again, you have lots of company in this wait.

Just received my TWE from USAFA today. Now I'm not sure whether I want a response from USNA or not.:frown:

harmi I am so sorry about the TWE. the mystery of USNA admissions continues. the other day my son said " If I could find all the terroists it might help me get in",

Good Luck with NROTC and thank you for all your great input over these past few months.

Still nothing down here in GA for the academy or NROTC- maybe today will be the day.

You are all amazing! Remember that there are many paths to fulfill your goals. Sometimes we don't realize which path we are supposed to be on. To those with the TWE, you will soon understand the direction you need to take. Apply again if you feel it is the right thing to do; take advantage of other wonderful opportunities that you hadn't noticed were laid at your feet. You will reach your goals in ways that will surprise you.

Also, consider reapplying to USNA. I know that won't be the "right" decision for most people but, if your heart is still in attending USNA (or another SA), you can reapply. USNA looks very favorably on students who do so.

The key is to figure out what caused you to get the TWE -- CGO will tell you -- and remedy that. In most cases, that means attending a 4-yr college and earning As and high Bs in Calc, Chem w/lab, English and History. Physics is a bonus.

1985 is correct. finish up your senior year with great grades. culivate relationships with teachers, mentors, persons in the community. find something purposeful to do this summer that shows your leadership potential. retake sat's etc early, this may or june or sept. reopen your file at usna, rewrite your essay, update your file with all you have accomplished since your app went in last year. get letters ready to send to congressmen, other nom sources. do as much as you can before the college year starts. get it in early. once at college, embrace it with all your heart. make friends, join organizations that interest you. get A's and B's, hopefully A's. go to office hours, seek out extra help, find a tutor if needed, get to know your professors, make sure they can see that your putting your best effort in .( you'll need recs from college profs this year) nom interviews will be easier this year since you'll be experienced at the process. Max out the CFA. you'll be so busy with your great new life at college that the year will fly and before you know it a blue folder may be arriving. then you'll have a tough decision, but what a great decision to have to make!

Still waitin', but preparing for any outcome.

Great comment. It made me wonder if the old 2014 file is added to the new 2015 file. like the DoDMERB stuff ... old transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, etc.

Maybe just new and updated documents are added... like final transcripts, college grades, prof's rec.'s ... becoming one giant file

USNA1985,
I get the science and math course work

English and history ? Frosh and soph versions of those courses have become almost remedial.

So, what types of content have real lasting value for the USNA academics, as well as, being able to show college level success for a re-apply process?

English - writing, reading literature?
History - world or American

I notice that content tends to suffer in those lower level classes at a state univ. when they are huge 'cattle calls' with 125 to 200 or more students being taught by grad students.

Another factor in the re-apply process .... any summer courses and the first semester, like the fall semester of 2010, will be the transcript "seen" by the USNA's admission process/appointment selection committee, and, by the MOC nomination/interview committee "sees" for possible LOA's and nomination to Class of 2015.

That 2nd semester should also show college successs too. But it won't be over until May or June 2011 for grade/transcript submission. I suppose that the letters of recommendation from prof's can help in supporting a view of how the 2nd semester is going.

Am I off-base with some of the assumptions above?
