Gotcha thanks much. My USMA portal just has a code of VA62 so I assumed the other portals were the same.
The USMA portal has a code under the nomination requirement- for me, it is MD08. The USNA portal lists "Maryland District 8" as my nominating source. It looks like USAFA lists the person as the nominating source. It seems as though each academy has a slightly different way of transcribing who has given you a nomination.

From looking at other threads on the forum it would seem that the 61= senior senator and 62= junior senator is a sometimes applicable rule (think 65%). In some cases it works, in others, it does not. In this case, if it is Senator Kaine that gave you the nomination, it looks like it applies. However, the only way to know for sure who nominated you would be to call or email the two offices and ask. An email along the lines of what is below would help you clear up the confusion.

Good (time of day),
On (date here) I was honored to receive a nomination to USMA. I would like to thank the congressman that gave me the nomination. Unfortunately, the USMA portal only lists that I have received a nomination from a senator. I was wondering if that nomination came from this office.
Closing statement.
Very respectfully,

Anyone from Ohio regarding both Senatorial and Congressional nominations?? I got nominated by Balderson but I haven't gotten anything from both Senators.
DS received an email this afternoon from Senator Brown for a nom to USMA!! The email had an attached PDF letter that is dated 12/23. With the uber delayed USPS, he was grateful for the email .... as it might be Valentine’s Day before that actual letter arrives. He hasn’t heard from Portman yet.

Yup. I got nominated by Brown today as well. That email with pdf file.

thank you so much! I’ll definitely reach out and see

Anyone else is still waiting on Senator Duckworth? I know some people got a notification from her via snail mail. I have nothing. Not on my portal and nothing in the mail or email.... Did anyone have a nomination from her? Thank you and Happy New Year!

DS received a nomination from both Senator Duckworth and Durbin both for the USMA. Happy New Year and good luck!!!

Just received a nomination through snail mail from Senator Warner (VA) this evening. I assume from the fine print that there is no principal nominee which means that it is a competitive slate for one vacancy. This is exciting news. Good luck to everyone.

Glad you have a nom in hand.

Don’t forget that even if you don’t receive an offer of appointment for the Senator’s open slot, if you are a fully qualified applicant, the SA can still choose fully qualified applicants off that slate, following certain guidelines, and charge the appointment to a nom authority they manage. See the Sticky post at the top of this Nominations forum.

DS received a nom to USMA from Sen Duckworth and a nom to USNA from Rep Underwood to USNA. He also received an LOA from USAFA and a NROTC Scholarship for Cornell. He is working to finish his USCGA application and looking forward to whatever comes his way. Good luck to you and gracious thanks to all who contribute to this forum.

Thank you so much. I understand that the senatorial slates in Virginia are relatively competitive and have multiple qualified candidates. I recall that even the nomination letter stated that several nominees will ultimately receive an appointment even if they do not fill the vacancy. As you mentioned, SA's can still select qualified nominees. I looked at the sticky post and it seems that if one does not win the slate, they are referred to other entities like SecNav, etc. Could you clarify upon these other entities such as SecAF and their processes? Moreover, since I have a presidential nom, senatorial nom, 3Q, and competitive application, I am still in the game for an appointment even if I do not win the slate, correct? Again, thank you and have a great night!

Advanced study material for you, since you seem to have a good grasp of one of the major elements of the application process. See this link:

Your multiplicity of noms gives the SA, if they want to offer you an appointment, the greatest flexibility on where to charge it.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the resourceful information. I have just completed reading the report. I have a few questions regarding the report. In the case that I do not win the slate for my senatorial nomination, there are several opportunities to still receive an appointment. I could be referred to service secretaries- they appoint 150 qualified alternates (who I would become in this scenario). I could also be referred to the service academy superintendent- they appoint 50 qualified candidates (qualified candidates are 3Q). Lastly, I could be referred to my presidential nomination- they appoint 100 candidates. Is this information correct so far? Are there any other opportunities that I have missed other than these? Also, is there a limit on how many appointees can be from a single state? On another note, according to a table in the report, November 1 is the "early action" deadline. Since I have submitted before this "early action" deadline, does this mean that I will receive my appointment decision earlier than others (ex: January, February instead of March as per usual)? Again, thank you so much for providing information and answering questions. Have a great night!

You applied for the VP nom, yes? I think you have all the bases covered for nom categories you could be considered for appointments in.

The “early action” deadline - I don’t know how that works, and with COVID, “normal” looks very different this year.

Standard advice: be prepared to wait and wait some more between now and May. Enjoy the here and now, PT, and tend alternate plans.

DS received a PA-10 nom to USMA
Nothing from Toomey or Casey yet, although Casey’s staff did say it wouldn’t be out until mid Jan...

DS received 3 snail mail letters last evening from Virginia. One was the Kaine nomination, which he saw in his portal a couple of weeks ago. One was a Spanberger nomination (VA-7). The last was a rejection from Warner. The Kaine letter was dated Dec. 28 while the other two were Dec. 21. It's starting to get real....
Good luck to all!
