So, my son got a letter from Sen. Van Hollen congratulating him on the USAFA nomination he received from our MOC (Sarbanes). Kinda weird. Basically, no nomination from the Senator as he received one from the MOC.

BUT ....... that means another no nom for the USNA from another source. It is appearing at this point that the interviews for the Senators he did were only for the USAFA, and because he got a nom for it from the MOC, that they are going to spread the wealth somewhere else. It does not appear that the senators considered him for more than one nomination location.

That means his LOA to the USNA is going to be in limbo without any nomination source. He did apply for a VP, but those are like hitting the lottery. I told him that until he gets a TWE from USNA, that he is still in the mix, but don't bet on anything. Hopefully something comes through, or even better, he gets into the USAFA (his first choice anyway). Or maybe there will be a NAPS or USAFAPS offer available.

Meanwhile, he's working on his 3/4/5 choices with regular schools and scholarship opportunities.
Best of luck with everything! I still haven’t heard from any MD senator and I am in the same position as your DS with a USAFA (MOC) nomination.

For those waiting for USNA noms from WA state senators, DS got an email from Sen. Murray today stating he will not be receiving a nom from her, so decisions should be coming for those who did. Then he checked his portal and he had confirmation of a senatorial nomination, so that must be from Sen. Cantwell. Best of luck to those awaiting their USNA WA state Sen. noms.

Couldn't find the answer to the following question in the Sticky:
My application process for a Congressional Nom. included being interviewed by my Rep. plus a team of military personnel. However, neither senator required an interview at all in their application process. In this case, would the congressional nomination hold more weight than the senatorial nomination?

Appreciate the heads up! DS has a congressional nomination for USAFA but has not heard back yet from any of the WA Senators.

For the purposes of meeting the requirements of an offer of appointment, one nom, any flavor, meets the requirement.

Elected officials can use any evaluation process they choose, including using a Sorting Hat, consisting of essays, panels, interviews/no interviews.

My DS also got an email today from Senator Murray's office giving him a nomination to the merchant Marine Academy. That gives him a nomination from his MOC, and from Senator Cantwell.

Or a dartboard. . .
my sister's friend has a hairdresser whose husband heard that this guy at 31 flavors was THERE and saw it.

Didn't get any from Murray or Cantwell. DS only has a nomination from Jaime Herrera-Beutler for USNA. Was disappointed he didn't get any USAFA. USNA is his first choice, though. So, hoping he gets a direct appointment for that.
Congrats on the nomination and best of luck! Same situation here, nothing from Cantwell or Murray, DS received nomination from local representative except nomination is for USAFA and USMMA and was told that the USAFA is a principal nomination so we are very excited and anxious!

When did they get the congressional nomination?

One of our Senators used an interview process and then nominated applicants who didn't get invited to interview. So, it's all over the board. Now I'm wondering if our son should have been spending more time at 31 Flavors!

Good luck on his USNA application!! For JHB my DDs interviewers said the largest pool for their applicants had requested USAFA so that was a tough nom to get.

I have a cadet at the Air Force Academy currently. He was the principal nomination for district 8 last year. He didn't receive any nominations from his senators. His little brother is a senior this year and applying to USAFA. His little brother received a competitive nomination from district 8 for USAFA, but not the principal. He also received a nomination from Senator Cantwell for USAFA. Interestingly enough he also received a nomination from Senator Murray for USMMA. Unfortunately we were notified of this on February 2, he never opened an application for USMMA and their deadline was January 31st 🤦🏼‍♀️. USAFA is his first choice. He's really hoping to attend the Academy with his older brother. My understanding is in the state of Washington that if someone receives a principal nomination, they do not get nominated by their senators. Historically that is what I have seen.

I am wondering if anyone has any statistics On the percentage of likelihood of receiving an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy if you are 3 qualified and you receive a Congressional Nomination, that is not principle, and a senator nomination? I know that only about 10% of candidates are on the service Academy forum, But even if we understood what the statistics of those 10% were it would be interesting to see!
