Daily emails remind me I'm getting closer to the return to work. I don't need the reminder and certainly didn't ask for the emails. Most of them are useless or worse, like tell me I have to do something. The buzz word this year is "Returning Strong."
We've gotten daily notifications about the mask policy but today's email said this:
"Returning Strong: Free Meals
When we return strong this fall, XXXX Food and Nutrition Services staff will be ready to serve healthy meals to students and staff. This year, all students will receive free breakfast and lunch."
I have no problem with this. I don't pay taxes in that county. I can't afford to live there. The county where I pay taxes gave teachers a five percent pay raise this year. I got a two percent with no step increase. Two years in a row with no step increase. But hand out free breakfast and lunch to all students. I'm thinking however, the money for the food is grant money like we had last year. The schools had to put out a certain amount of food or lose the money. Food service would deliver bag nasties to the sub-schools for the students who showed up. The kids wouldn't eat them so we did. Most of the time the food was edible. Especially the sweet and sour pork with rice. I can't wait for that one to show up on the menu. I'll be eating free food through my mask.
