I believe its acceptable to have the conversation- given this is a forum. That being said- yes, the mask mandate comes from on-high from the DoD, not from local USNA leadership. I have tactfully and objectively voiced my concerns with masking etc to each of my representatives, and am involved at a local level at the academic medical center where I am employed. Unfortunately, there is also a agency power-struggle and a political-struggle at play with CV19 measures (both republican and democrat) which skews the trust and confidence that US citizens', including those in our armed services, have in the process. I do not see in the present situation how closures and restrictions (not talking mask mandates) can be useful unless we expect to live in a bubble for the rest of this pandemic and see our economy go to shambles- talk about national security risks. For the record, I am PRO vaccination (that's 70-85% FULLY vaccinated, boosters or revaccination if/when required)- I trust the science. Social distancing- it works, but it has significant drawbacks (e.g. economy and mental health), masking- I am NOT convinced.
