4-Year NROTC Scholarship Acceptance Thread

One other note. The portal that normally lists updates is ironically down for a security maintenance upgrade. So folks need to make sure they check their emails and check spam folders in case something was sent there. The results just posted a few moments ago, so folks may not have noticed yet.

There were 80 selectees this time around. 67 of those were Tier 1 or 2, which leaves 13 for Tier 3. One nurse option selectee as well.
So what are the total aggregate numbers so far if you dont mind me asking. Just curious as to how many actual scholarships have been given out vs planned. Thanks in advance.

Right now, things are sitting at ~265 selectees. Of those, there are about 33 Tier 3 majors with the rest Tier 1 and 2. The total number of scholarships should come in around 1050, but that can change a little bit (meaning a few more, not less). Doing rough math, 25.2% have been offered scholarships. Plenty of time left for others, and in the next 4 weeks we typically see a bumper crop of people applying since many of them finish their applications over their holiday break.

Thank you for the information. My DS is patiently waiting in the alternate pool looking for that hand to help him out! Merry Christmas and congratulations to all the new selectees this week.

I just wanted to say how lucky the forum members are to have you as a direct source of accurate intel. Very much appreciate your input and willingness to keep people apprised and educated as to the process.

The Navy fire was completely lit in our oldest DD this summer and she pursued her NROTC application very independently and without asking for any assistance, which we take as a sign that this is truly what she wants and not just because Dad is a former Corpsman. That being said we have rarely searched the internet on this whole topic and only now am I, concerned Mom, starting to dig into the wealth of info here because DD received her alternate status email today. Her completed application went in late November and was complete for this immediate prior review starting December 12th. She has been accepted to #2 and #5 of her top 5 NROTC choices and should hear from all schools she applied to by beginning of March. My question is will she hear anything monthly as boards are held from this point on OR does she just remain in the alternate "pot" until the last board of April 2023? For Mom (lol), getting an update of any kind monthly is better than waiting 4 months to hear yay or nay...

The typical pattern is that the boards scheduled for January, February, and March need to be completed. Then, typically in mod April, the alternates will start being notified. The intent there is to see how many scholarship spots remain compared to those who may have opted for either an SA or a different ROTC component such as AROTC or AFROTC.

The waiting isn't easy, but at least DD has her acceptance already. It can be even more frustrating to be selected for scholarship but not yet have an acceptance letter from the universities of choice.

For anyone on these boards who isn't the most stellar athlete or a top academic performer, and like me, has heard of many exceptional applicants being turned away from the scholarship board, I'd like to say that I just received the NROTC scholarship at my #1 school after taking no AP classes, not holding a 4.0 GPA, and having a mid-1300's SAT. No, I didn't have my application in by the first board nor did I make a great scientific discovery at age 8.

- Just a little hope for your Wednesday. Also, don't check your NETFOCUS every hour.

Sooooo..... it's typical that alternates find out in April OR do they ever get moved up into the select pile at the next (and subsquent) monthly board review(s)? Basically I'm just trying to find out if I should tell my DD to do her best to just forget about it until April.

I have rarely seen early notifications. I think the April timeframe is what she would be looking at.

It sounds like you probably nailed the interview and the interviewer saw something in you that they really liked.

For what they saw, I’m quite grateful they saw it. :)

My favorite part about applying to the ROTC scholarships was how I could show my character and values through the interview; it made me feel as though I could put my best foot forward in a light which a traditional application cannot.

In my DS's case, he was Alternate #2 for a "NURSE OPTION" Scholarship after the First Board of Jan 2022. He was notified via the NETFOCUS Status change of the Scholarship Award on April 6, 2022. There is hope.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to find your thread on your journey with you DS ultimately declining the scholarship..can you hook me up?

That Look...
When you're in JROTC class and you wonder why Mom and Dad just walked in and then you see the Marines behind them with the Giant Check...

the moment you realize you got your ROTC scholarship.jpg
I love that DS's friends knew exactly what this meant at the same time as DS and were able to share the joy with him!

Special thanks to all those on this forum whose advice helped lead to this moment!
